Ok i am purchasing new retainers for my 95 M3. When looking at the parts list on Pelican Parts. They list an upper and lower spring retainer plate. I can only find where people talk about the upper retainer on BF.c. Should i order both? Is the lower retainer plate also called the spring seat??

Spring seat. If your doing the retainers...do the whole valve train! Might as well since your in there.

Do the uppers, the lowers, and the seals... at the very least.

you don't have to say "yes i searched" unless youre starting an oil, CAI, exhaust, or HID thread ;-)

why are you replacing the retainers/valve train?, I ask this because if your doing it to just do it, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense..but if your REALLY worn out under there then I would replace the springs, seats(which are the lower retainers), upper retainers, locks(or collets, 2 per valve), valve stem seals, and if all that is worn out, then you should replace the hyd. lifters as well, esp. if your putting in after market cams (schrick, sunbelt) these tend to be pretty strong but over 100,000 they could wind up sticking a little, are you getting a tell tale "ticking" sound, I would replace them if your going to be in there, and according to Alan Jensen(ARJ) after market ones aren't as good as OE BMW, so go w/ oe lifters

Schricks are going in. And a Supercharger next month. Plus i have a 95 (weak retainers) with 143k miles on it. Probably needs a good update.

All you need is New valve stem seals, spring and retainer replacments. 3 angle valve job.
T hoff Machine will do it for about 200.00 plus the parts. There is no reason to change out the spring seats.
