and found a 2002 with 74K. No apparent issues that I can see, drives well. I would take it for a PPI though. Are there any issues that come up with a 02? They want $13,000.00 for it

Alp,
Check 2 threads down from yours, my friend!
So much has been written about this subject that it would behoove you to check THIS (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7175957&postcount=2) post for some very basic info, and follow the two links to the MINI discussion boards within it for your research.
IMHO, the 2004+ model years are when the MINI was truly sorted. Most pre-2004s were fine but some had a number of notable problems (e.g.; PS fan and radiator cooling fan on same circuit, coolant reservoir, stumbling, yo-yo, etc). Check the maintenance history of the vehicle against any TSBs issued. The MINI dealer can get you the maintenance history. Personally, I would not by a used MINI from anyone other than a MINI dealer.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I dont see a problem buying a used MINI from a private party. However, I would get a PI though from from a Master Tech with BMW, MINI experience. Its just a car.

there were a lot of issues with the windshield cracking in the 02-03 MINI, but most were replaced under the factory warranty. They were considered a stress fracture of some sort.
Also, if you have driven a new MINI, like an 05-06, the gearing of the Cooper S has been completely redone. It is almost like driving a different car. Though there is only an additional 5 hp in the 05-06 from the 02, the gearing is much different. The 0-60 times were almost a full second faster. Not sure if that is important to you, but worth considering.
Good Luck with your decision.
