I have been having a check engine light pop up from time to time on my 97' 328i. Every time I pulled the code and got "evap TEV stuck open". I believe this is emisions related and for some reason I think it has to do with the charcoal canister. Can anyone clarify? Thanks.

Is your AC working? In my world [commercial hvac]that means "evaporator thermal expansion valve open". This would cause your AC to go by-by.

Hmmm, my ac is ice cold, but i have been getting a clicking noise coming from the compressor for a while now. Possibly related?

I just got back from a drive after resetting the light and now it is throwing the code "EVAP shut off valve stuck closed". This thing is fighting me now.

I suspect that's a fault in the fuel system evaporative control system and specifically a fault in the valve.

I just got back from a drive after resetting the light and now it is throwing the code "EVAP shut off valve stuck closed". This thing is fighting me now.I have the same problems!? I know the secondary air pump is bad and the Evap shut off valve is stuck closed sometimes (code FD,F5,F6). but today I tried to start it and it was running the roughest I have ever seen on a cold start. I got a CEL so I pulled over. The car sounded and felt like it was misfiring!!! It was not though. I pulled over quickly, shut it down, and ran the Peake. I got a new code FF. Evap TEV stuck OPEN! My car is fighting me too!
I reset the CEL and started the car...problem gone!!??
Its really becoming annoying and I NEED to fix this.
ANY SOLUTIONS? I did a search for EVAP TEV to no avail! Please Advise

On my E30 there is a valve at the intake manifold that controls vapor flow from the evaporative emissions canister. It's supposed to cycle regularly so that it is closed during warmup and closed at idle, but open at other times. The bentley manual says that a malfunction can cause rough idle (only reason I know is mine appears to be leaking). Don't know if the E36 has something similar but I can't imagine why it wouldn't.
