I just started looking for an e36 m. There is one at a near by used car lot that looks nice. It's royal blue with a sort-of-white leather interior with vader seats. The out side only has a couple small dings and the interior looks good. The car is a 95 with 96k miles and they are asking 10,900. Is this what I should expect to pay or is this too much with that amout of miles? The kbb retail is like 12k and private party is about 10k. Thanks.

And do you think I would offend my mechanic if I brought in the car for a PPI with a list of about 15 specific things I wanted them to look at? It would be everything that's on edge motorworks 75k mile list. I would just want to be sure how much money I would have to spend on preventative maitnence once I buy the car to bring up to pristine condition. thanks.

The edge list to your mechanic is a great idea. A list from him on what needs to be replaced is a great bargaining tool. Check each panel, fenders, hood, doors etc.. for a matching VIN number. Check out a carfax or autocheck (dealer should have access) I'm guessing if its a 95 "royal blue" its Avus on Dove interior. The Avus is a great color. The price sounds reasonable depending on the needed maintenance. If you can find out where the car was serviced they may have records. BMW keeps their records on a database. When I bought my 97 I spoke to the service writer at the repair shop who knew the car very well and it helped ease my mind on buying a higher mileage car (126k). Wholesale market is anywhere between 7-9,000 depending on the vehicles condition. So if its nice the 10,900 sounds ok to me but could probably be had for less. Good luck and keep up posted. Pics would be nice.

I'm going back to the dealership on saturday to drive the car, I'll snap a couple pics then. Where would the vin number on the panels be found?
