Hello all
what is better for a 4 dr. M3?
the Bazooka top of line 10" powered sub or the Infinity Basslink?
i am debating on either one.

Is it a good addition to the Harmon Kardon system?

thanks!

I personally do not like systems with built in amps. They are easy to hook up but do not give you quite the bass you are looking for. I have heard a 10" bazooka with an external amp and it is decent. The secret is good clean power, and when they are combined with the speaker, the amp can be compromised for space. Try to find someone with both setups, or listen to them at the stereo shop and compare. If price is the issue, then either is better than neither.

from my experience the bazooka integrates better with the system than the infinity and also has more output...dont forget that the front of the bazooka tube must be 2-4" from a corner in the trunk so dont just put it in the middle of the rear deck, etc....

i was leaning towards the bazooka. i was thinking that you can't replace cubic inches in the size of the bazooka vs. an open design of the Basslink...

thanks guys!

to answer your question....

in my previous car.. (98 328i) i had the hk system too....

because i knew i was going to sell it...i wanted to try to get some more bass, in a cheap and easy way...
i bought the infinity basslink...

sounded like crap!!

seriously...

i never heard the bazooka....but if you say its the top of the line bazooka then id defenitly recomend you to get that...

the problem with the infinity kappa wasnt the power (which it really didnt have much of as it is.....) but it was that it just didnt blend in right.
just didnt sound good TO ME.

For the price of either, a stereo shop will build to suit a sub, box AND AMP that hit a lot harder and cleaner...

learned this the hard way...

i have the infinity (look in my sig) it sounds pretty good, problem is neither has enough power to bump through sealed off trunks, i knocked out the metal panel for the optional ski hole (mine doesnt have one) so its pretty subtle just lets you feel some bass, its definately not for BASSheads, but its got decent sound

luxo M3...i did it mostly because it was lightweight compared to a box (weight=bad) and the way i mounted it i didnt lose much trunk space

overall it sounded better and louder in my 300zx where that is a hatchback so i bounces off the real glass into the pass. compartment

E36:

Yeah Man I am with ya as far as the weight issue is concerned, since my last post, I went with a set of 8" subwoofer adapters and a set of Pioneer 8" FREE-AIR subs. Total bill came to $120. Definitely less than the weight of a speaker box...

The issue with the self-amped subs like the Bazooka and Basslink is that the BMW trunk iS REALLY tightly sealed with the Coupes.

I think for the sedans with the fold-down armrest/ski pass, this helps the bass.

I had the Power Bazooka 10" unit my my old Miata. It sounded OK...but I also had to cut a 6" HOLE in the rear shelf to allow the bass into the cabin...as the MIata has a full metal rear shelf AND gas tank between the driver and trunk...

Also the Bazooka 10" tube ISN'T THAT light, it also weighs in at around 8-12 lbs easy. I used to pull it from the trunk on track days and I actually *felt* a noticeable difference when cornering...

I *think* an UN-AMPed Bazooka tube with a small highpower amp is better and less expensive that the Bazooka AMPED tube.

Keep in mind though, I am just offering an opinion...

An eight pound difference is noticeable? That means that after I take a dump, my car is faster? Time for some X-LAX.;)

[laughing]

I'd have to weigh the Bazooka Tube again

[laughing]

It was A LOT more than 8 lbs...but I was being conservative...

The Bazooka UNit I had was about 2 feet tall and 11" diameter.
Plus the built in AMP.

The thing was HEAVY. Not a one handed removal job from the trunk.

But again, keep in mind, this was in a MIATA. 10-20 lbs anywhere on the car and you would notice. The Bazooka tube definitely weighed as much if not more than the spare!
