The old one that came out had an arrow showing which way up.....

My new 80c one (doing the FDM) has no arrow....but a tiny dot, that could mean up...but then all the writing would be upside down? (has manuf and 80c writing)

So is it safe to assume the tiny dot is the mark to go by? Or go by the writing? (why couldn't they use an arrow! :D )

Thanks!

Probably the dot signifies the way it should be oriented

Thanks Guys, I went that way. So far so good! A few busted knuckles and quite a mess but I got the system flushed (nasty looking coolent from prev owner..greenish brown...with a bit of contamination..little bits of crud), FDM parts, net t-stat housing and replaced the Low Coolent Sensor finally! No more messages!

does the orientation really matter? when i was installing mine, i didn't pay attention to orientation... i think i put it on with the bar in the middle oriented vertically, but i definitely didn't check which side should be up and which down...

My BMW shop owner bud said it really doesn't matter. And the brown didn't seem like oil. I suspect possibly some corrosion in the radiator. It looked like small particles of dirt actually. Runs great after the FDM, seems to rev a tad faster. Cooling is fine so far...........
