a little different setup:

8,8 stock cr
12,9 bolts cut and maschined into head studs
gt28rs with ,82 exhaust, ported internal wg, 0,8bar, ported intake( no 45* step anymore on cold side)
sds standalone, wasted spark, 3 steps colder plugs, custom wires
320 jetronic idle control with thermostat (sds has on-off fast idle solenoid control only)
440cc injectors
524td mani adapted,
324td air filter box with paper filter and cold air from behind headlights
tropical version radiator, shroud, upper hose
air ducting to radiator, all gaps closed, opened up grilles
320 jetronic waterpump hose, camshaft pulley and front cover to delete hole for distributor and to have that factory look
oil catchcan
audi blowoff
sachs racing pressureplate and organic disc ( daily driver)
325e propshaft with bigger guibo
bigger output flange fitted to 325i gearbox from 535i
3,46 open rear diff, still looking for lsd unit to fit inside
water to air intercooler, copper cores
unknown fan, probably from kia sportage
wms wideband
exhaust gas temp gauge, exhaust pressure port for measurments in mani and downpipe to avoid unansvered questions, "is it too restrictive, too hot, too lean?"
custom wiring, using elements from 325i engine harness
325ix windshield wash reservoir
battery relocated in trunk using 325i touring battery cable and 318 e36 battery enclosure

hmm....

wasnt expecting the piping to look that way...

Is it running ?

patrick S

it was running for about 15km without watercooling unit, i
could not resist to try out it on road.

until i destroyed freshly rebuilt auto tranny which was working fine without boost
then it was back to garage and installing clutch pedal and waiting for clutch
should have gone manual first and spend rebuilding money on clutch. i chosed 28rs because of auto tranny to get instant spool, if i knew i was gonna install manual box i would have gone 30r i think
lesson learned

exhaust piping was made for my former e30 that had m54b30 transplanted in it, so i cut fist section and mated it to front pipe. total spent on exhaust: 0$

3 steps colder plugs? You're going to foul those in no time.

How's the SDS working for you?

(replace x with t, sorry, can't post images yet)

I take it this is your IC?

Interesting build, but seems like an awful lot of work for 250 hp.

on later m20 engines with catalytic converters they used very hot type plugs, one step hotter than on non catalytic model. so it makes two steps colder from non catalytic model. i am using no5 on bosch scale. m3 from factory uses no6, that makes it one step colder from it. its NGK BPR8ES analog from bosch so i think i will be fine

sds is working really fine, i am very happy. got it on the road after half an hour when i first time installed it on my another car. half time was richening mixture for start and warmup.
very simple to install and get running, real time info on engine from programmer that you can mount on dash:
air and water temps, ign advance, injector duty, tps and map, acc pump, rpm, knock sensing. instant troubleshooting when something goes wrong.

yes, its not 35r and its not on s50, but take m20b25 airflow and plot it on map with 1,88pr, see what it looks there

yes, water goes through these cooling passages and cools air, its really very efficient setup but many people are afraid of any kind of fabrication that looks complicated to them. water to air setup gives me too much less trouble routing pipes and is excellent in driving around town where not enough air is coming to front of vehicle

So let me get this straight .. the SMS standalone is a full PnP ecu for the motronic ECU... ?? if it is then sound really interesting... !!
