Well the unthinkable has come

I bought this car about two years ago from Texas. It took me about 5 months to find the exact one I wanted. It needed to be a well maintained, summer state only, estoril blue on black or mulberry, 98.5+ M3. I flew out and bought the car, car was stock when I purchased it.

I never intended on selling this car, but lately I feel like I never get to drive the car and it’s time to buy a small house or a condo. So my baby has to go

Details

- Late 1998 BMW M3 2dr coupe
- 72,XXX unmolested miles
- Estoril blue exterior
- Rare mulberry interior
- 5-speed manual
- Electric vaders
- Original M3 spoiler
- Harmon Kardon sound system
- VIN: WBSBG9336WEY79653

History

The first owner of this car was located in the Dallas, Texas area. He ordered the car from Classic BMW in Dallas. All the work was performed at classic BMW and I have receipts from all of it. I think as the warranty was coming to an end, he decided to sell the car. The second owner was an older gentleman from Plano Texas and purchased an extended warranty through classic BMW and also had everything done there. I have a ton of receipts with many major maintenance repairs. As his extended warranty was coming to an end, he decided to sell the car. That’s when I found it and bought it. The car had 66,000 miles on it when I purchased it.

So this M3 was purchased and maintained at Circle BMW in Dallas Texas for most of its life. Circle BMW is filled with a group of very customer friendly staff and knowledgeable technicians and it really shows on this pristine M3. It has lived a great life.

Condition

- The exterior on the car is pretty much perfect. NOT one ding anywhere on the car. Few rock chips here and there but very minimal
- Interior is in great condition. The driver bolster is showing slight wear, but also minimal.

Modifications (all have about 4,000 miles on them, put close to $7,000 into the car)

Performance

- Shark injector software
- Cosmos racing cold air intake
- Stromung exhaust
- Understeer short shift kit with modified selector rod
- Stainless Steel brake lines all around

Exterior

- 18x8.5 CSL rims
- 245/35/18 Goodyear eagle F1 tires (about 3,000 miles)
- European clear light all around the car
- 35% tint all around. The rear window was starting to bubble so I took the tint off, but will have new tint installed shortly
- Blacked out front grill

Suspension

- Ground Control track/school kit with 450/550 spring rates
- Ground Control camber plates
- Carbon Fiber front strut bar
- Racing dynamics rear strut bar
- UUC front and rear sway bars (only rear installed)
- Rouge Engineering rear camber arms
- Urethane subframe bushings (less then 1,000 ago)
- Urethane rear trailing arm bushings (less then 1,000 ago)
- BMW X-brace
- I also put urethane tranny mounts on the car, but put the stock ones back in because they made the whole car vibrate.

Maintenance

- The first two owners did ALL of the work at the same dealership the car was bought at. They have kept all of the maintenance records and I have them in a binder.

I did quite a bit of work on the car also

- Replaced the subframe and trailing arm bushings with urethane about 1,000 miles ago
- Routine oil changes every 3 months with mobile 1 10w30 full synthetic and bmw oil filters. I say 3 months because, 3 months came way faster then 3k miles 
- Flushed transmission with Red Line fluid less then 1,000 miles ago
- Flushed differential with Red Line fluid less then 1,000 miles ago
- Replaced all the belts
- Replaced the thermostat and housing
- Also did a complete coolant flush with BMW coolant
- Replaced rear wheel bearings less then 1,000 miles ago
- When I was installing the stainless steel brake lines I also flushed the brake fluid with racing fluid. Also done less then 1,000 miles ago.

There is NOTHING wrong with the car. It has been a babied weekend cruiser all of its life. I took the car to two auto crosses and that’s about it. I never drove this car in rain and put it away last winter and took it out this summer.

Yes I know that you can get a e36 m3’s all day for cheaper, but try finding a unabused, tastefully modified, estoril on mulberry, meticulously maintained one for anywhere near that.

My asking price is......Time to GO! $21,000

Some people apparently need a refresher:

Under No Circumstances is anyone to reply to a post suggesting that the item can be found cheaper elsewhere. That is the responsibility of the purchaser to look for the best deal - not for forum members to point out. Members are trying to sell their items in a safe environment without fear of others trying to undercut their sales.

Gorgeous car, low miles, full history, CSLs....

I think the price is easily ballpark.

lol, as if that is at all accurate. If you look at other M3s for sale his price is perfectly reasonable. The market determines price, not some stupid online appraisal service. Beautiful car man.

Some of you guys may claim the price is way to high but honestly you cant go by the books, thats by far the worst bargaining chip when it comes to cars like an M3, especialy the lower mileage ones (under 100k)...

You gotta realize that the owners/sellers control the market, if they dont put theirs up for sale and instead hang onto them, you cant get one. They put them up for a high price and everyone else follows, tough luck, kbb wont help you there. ;)

rdpower
10-05-2006, 10:09 PM
Well if you want to get into an economics, buyers control the market just as much as the sellers. Because of the fact that there are so many m3's being sold right now its more of a buyers market. If this werent the case the car would have been sold days ago and he wouldnt have had to lower his price and say the car has to go.

Heiss M3
10-05-2006, 11:33 PM
Your very right on that, in the fact its worth what people will pay. However, if your lucky with the area you live in, allot of times you'll have adult men who are enthusiasts looking to buy an e36 M3 with low mileage/stock. I dont know of but one other teen around here that owns an M3 asides from me and his is an auto, so hes obviously not going for the performance aspect of this machine, only the name. Anyways, essentialy what im saying is, the 4 e36 M3's around my area are all owned by adults who I know paid (in recent years) in the upper teens maybe 20k for their cars. All in all, it just depends on the market in the area you live or whos looking for what. The more specific the car is (color, options, stock, etc.) the more specific the buyer is, thus the price will in turn be higher, because someone is looking for that specific setup and will be willing to pay for it, hopefully. ;)

Your car is absolutley gorgeous, heres my advice, but if you're dead set on getting $20k+, you should part it out and then sell it as a stock pristine highly sought after color combo late model E36, its worth every penny of 20 grand. That said, see below.

That's not necassarily true. Even ins. companies give credit to the aftermarket if you retain all of your receipts. If he didn't have them all, I don't think the price would be so high.

I won't get into a debate about this since im not out to ruin a for sale thread, but it doesn't matter what policy a insurance company may or may not have because this is a sale of a vehicle and coming from someone that knows used car values and the business behind it (my dad owns a business dedicated to high end used cars sales) i can tell you that only to someone very, how can i put this nicely, um.. un-knowledged, would pay thousands more for mods done to the vehicle by the previous owner...if it were me, i'd go "put it back to stock and lets talk price"

Beautiful car man, saw it on E46fanatics a while back. Stay firm on that price bro, that car is perfect. I would be all over this, but I have finalized my decision to purchase in Spring. Very nice car. A lot of the mods/maintance I had on my White M3 with the same miles. I had trouble selling for 17k and I had a brand new 3.46 on it along with M50 mani kit. I hope you get what you're looking for though, I understand your combo is more rare than mine though and as they say "mods add nothing to the value of the car". Right.

AlpinaM3

May be a tad high but not much. The $10k over comment is a joke. That would mean $11k for this car which would be an insult especially with 70K miles. The care that went into this M3 shows and if I were in the market for one I would offer $18-$19K for it. When see some of M3 beaters offered out there, this ones a gem. You get what you pay for.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Good luck with the sale and kudos for a good presentation.

the company i used to ship my e30 to california quoted me $1100 fully insured, door to door service for the m3 to eugene. you got email with other details

let me know how this works for you. also, if you'd be interested i can drive the car there and fly back for half price of the shipping quote :D i like road trips and it would be a great last time with my car :)

AlpinaM3
10-25-2006, 02:41 PM
The only way you are going to get less miles is install a new motor. At this mileage this car is only 8750 miles a year! The next car would be a 99 then your done with the E36 production. If you found a car with 40K or less on it you will be in the middle 20's for sure becuase that would mean collector car never driven and not a scratch or mark on it. My 2c worth.

I am HUGELY interested.... i don't know how i haven't seen this before but i'm glad i scanned this forum one more time.

Far away but worth it IMHO... there is some kind of shortage of M3's out west here I guess... i'm 97304 Salem, Oregon :)

Unfortunately i'm waiting on the pending sale of my Supra at the moment other wise i'd be on this already. I currently own 3 vehicles so I'm putting my foot down right now and not letting it get any further out of hand :)

I'll be sure to hit you up once that's taken care of though. If you could fire me off an email with 1 or 2 pictures and a brief description including price that would be great... that's how I keep track of all the cars i'm looking at :)

yes the car is still available, but like i said, $20k is the lowest i will allow myself to go. not a penny lower, well maybe a panny or two :D

this car just means so much to me that no matter how much some people will keep saying that i am asking too much or that my car is not worth that much, to me it is worth beyond that and i feel that the right buyer will appreciate it as much as i did/do and will not mind paying the price.

Wow man, that is the single most sexy E36 I have ever seen. I am being serious when I say if you have it in spring, I call dibs. I would be on that RIGHT NOW, but I am still dealing with insurence issues from my last car.

So if she doesn't sell, (no idea why she isn't) I serious am very very interested after the winter season. (Per say Feb.) I'm kinda hoping she doesn't sell for my sake, but best of luck to you man, you really do have THE nicest E36 I've laid eyes on.

for some people shipping is just a much better option.

i flew out and drove cars back home 3 times now (this and 2 from NJ) and i love the experience, but some people just prefer to have it shipped. and around this time, it is very unexpected to possibly get a snow storm or anything like that.

Just curious, when one ships a car how does one NOT get it driven, dented or generally damaged? It is probably better to get it shipped in a closed truck and how does one pick a good company? What is the cost of something like this from east to west coast?

+1. I'm shipping the car I just bought from California on a carrier i found online that I got a good rate on. I'm having the guy I bought it from take tons of pics and check the mileage once he drops it off. I'm going to check it out when its dropped off at the terminal for dents, scratches, burned rubber in the fender walls, and mileage. Anyone else have any suggestions?

That sounds good to me... The mileage thing is a good idea. The company that is shipping the car for me is house to house so that is nice. Luke said he had used them before and it was a flawless transaction so im hoping for that.

I think I will be very happy too... It will be surreal just to drive it even though I will try and keep the mileage as low as possible and the M out of harms way.

Shippping company will probably be American auto choice movers

yeah they do house to house and it is highly unlikely the guy will stop somewhere on the way to unload the cars and take them for a spin. they do a visual inspection before the guy loads the car on the truck marking any spots with flaws, and if he doesnt mark dent or scratch and eli notices it when the car gets to him they are responsible for that.

i hope i dont have to raise the car to get it on the truck though. that the only worry right now.

i think if i do, i will only raise the rear. give it a muscle car look haha.

No worries. Your car can't be lower than mine. I had mine shipped to
AA in Miami and there was no need. A good transport will have a
"flat platform" where the car is driven onto. That platform is sort of like
an elevator. There are a lot of exotics that are lower than our cars,
that's why they are designed that way. Congrats to both of you on
the sale. Now is my turn :)
