I was struggling with a suitable title, so bear with me.

The last few oil changes I have used a oil filter kit from Advanced Auto Parts. Not to save money or anything, but because they are local and the closest BMW dealership is 45 minutes away.

Everything seems fine except that I noticed that the o-ring that goes on the filter lid seems to halfway melt(not so bad it runs oil out of it, but it will very slowly seap out and makes a mess). At WORSE, in the summer my oil will reach 260. It will not stay at 260 but it does hit it in certain circumstances.

I didn't really notice that the o-ring that BMW makes/distributes had that issue or not. I know that these kits do though.

Can anyone else, who has oil that gets 250-260 degrees, elaborate if they have noticed any issues with a BMW o-ring or other make.

*yeah, oil cooler is next mod on my list*

Do you have a supercharger? Before my supercharger my oil never got over about 225.

I've seen as high as 250 (roadys and coupes tend to heat up a lot more than you guys) and have had ZERO problems w/ the OEM BMW o-ring. Have never used anything other than the Mann/Mahle kits.

I order them 5 or 6 at a time from Bimmerparts, so one is always within reach.

You need an oil cooler for sure :)

That sort of temperature wil certainly reduce the oils lubricating qualities...though I couldn't say how much without doing some serious reading!

you need to be running 10-60 lubro moly or 10-60 castrol tws with temps that high

also stop buying shitty filters, they dont filter as well either.

buy em online from like pelican parts of bavauto.. mahle or mann either one is good.
