I asked my mechanic today to take off my CDV and he told me that you cant just take it off... it needs to be gutted. Please tell me he just is full of shit... I swear ive read 20 articles about people just removing them. I have a 98 m3 and I also have an SS clutch line I want him to throw on there.

There was an article long ago about gutting them in order to keep the dealer from seeing that you'd modified your car during the lease or warrantee period. Zeckenhausen racing or something like that. For a while, they were doing a gutting service by mail.

But then these aren't new (newish) cars anymore....

Remove it, it is only about 10-15mm long and you should have enough length in the line to just remove it. I did mine this past weekend and love it.

Why would this guy think gutting it would be needed? is the ONLY reason to gut it just so the dealership cant tell?

yes

gutted ones would literally be boared out to just appear like it was still there..no advantage at all

is there a DIY on the CDV delete? i was against doing this..as i think its useful..but when driving spiritedly i notice the "lag" the CDV creates an it gets annoying :stickoutt

The disadvatages of gutting are:

-its a pain in the ass extra step that is completely unecessary for e36s with the CDV
-if you don't do a PERFECT job of cleaning out the debris left over from gutting it that stuff is going to be inside your lines.... which isn't good....

Some BMWs CDV joints are connections whose ends won't meet without the CDV. In these circumstances, gutting the CDV is required.

Just remove it. Who has an E36 M3 that's under warrantee anymore? No longer any need to fear the dealer.

Don't you need a power bleeder for this job?

Don't you need a power bleeder for this job?

You should... make your own with a garden sprayer, air hose, and a few air fittings like you would use with an air compressor. Then fabricate your own cap from that HELP! part (not sure what #)
