In the E36, it was Alpine and Pioneer.

What about the E46? Aren't Alpine and Pioneer Japanese companies?? I thought that BMW would only use German brands:dunno

Don't know the facts for the E46. The easiest way to tell is to look at the optional CD changer for your car, then compare it to aftermarket units. Especially the cartridges. In the E36 and E39, the CD changers were just re-badged and re-pinned :( standard models.
With digging, I guarantee you will find many non-"German" manufactured parts on a BMW.
Heck, even Hardley Ablesons are loaded with parts manufactured in Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, and other places. Early 90's Lincoln Continentals were classified as "import" cars because so many components came from outside the US.
In today's world, it is almost impossible to find all components of anything as complex as an automobile made in only one country.
