so ive been searching on the forum for the answer to my question. so maybe someone can help me.
i have a 98 m3, with the mechtech turbo setup (aerodyne) 5psi so i assume stage 1
i know this kit was a high selling point with there "carb legal". but if i put a straight pipe would it help? is it safe?
has anyone tried this on the aerodyne. i figured i could get the sims from AA and do a straight and everything should be okay?

Please don't take offense to our amazement of your (running) mechtech car. We've heard too many bad stories, but hey, 40k miles? Frickin awesome!!
Do you happen to have a dyno handy?

Please don't go catless. The gains are slim to none (on a kit running such comparatively low boost to others), but leaving them on = Hooray for my nose and hooray for the environment.
Get some o2 sims for the rear o2 sensors and throw in some metallic substrate cats - $50 from Magnaflow.
And +1 for pics and/or a dyno pic - I love seeing Mechtech kits that didn't blow up :D If only they had spent some time learning to tune, it would have been a decent setup for the money.

Go for hi flow cats if you really want those gains. Catless doesn't get you mroe gaisn than that and it also smells like a rotten cooch.
We need a club, "I own a Mechtech and NO, my motor hasnt blown up (yet)"
I have a mechtech aswell. Funtional. Safe numbers. Average gains.

+1 on the Club, lol. :lol
Not knocking on y'alls cars or anything, just truly flabbergasts me that they made *ANY* kits that actually work.

I knew you had a working kit, but I thought you were the sole survivor of that mess.:D

Not quite the same car ;) But you get the point - The little "bumps" under the transmission in the bottom picture are the cats.
PS: I have no idea if these cats will pass smog test, but I assume they probably will if your tuning is sound. I don't think you have to run o2 sims w/ them (at least I don't, but I've got Nick G tuning ;) lol). I'm in Florida, so fines can suck mah bawls.

thanks for the picture, hopefully replacing the o2 in the manifold and runnin sims will take care of the problem. its runnin pretty rich..
so far only o2 codes are being thrown out, and it saying jumper time on the 02. which im not sure what that means.
