Hello,
I have a 92' 325i and the gas petal is very easy to push (Rev-Matching is easy). I am going to be getting an M3 though this week. I test drove the car today and the first thing that I noticed was; the gas petal is very stiff!? Is this how all E36 M3's are? Thanks!

I had this problem with my m3 for months and I had no idea what it could be. finally I looked up under the dash and the kick panel above the gas petal was placed wrong so that it was lodged up behind some device directly to the left of the gas. after I pulled the kick panel down into its normal place the gas was like buddda. before the gas was hitting the kick panel and making it hard to control, you may want to check that but otherwise no the gas should be nice and easy to press.

Yea the cable is like a bicycle brake cable, if it's twisted around under the hood there will be a lot of friction in it and typically will suck. I've driven a couple M3's that had this problem. If the cable is fine it may just be worn out or somebody modified the TB spring that pulls on the cable...

Ok, and if this is the problem how would I go about fixing it? Have a mechanic look at it, or is it easy to fix?

If you're good with cars it's easy to fix, if not it's nothing a mechanic can't do in 30 mins or less..
www.realoem.com to find the cable's part # then order from a online vendor or a BMW dealer...

depends what car you are used too. If you came from jap or domestics those have lighter effort gas pedals. The m3 is just a stiffer pedal, IMO.

Awesome, I just want to make sure that its not caught under the dash/kickpanel first. Thanks a bunch! I knew something wasnt right, I almost stalled right when I started going during the test drive cause I wasnt ready for a stiff gas petal at all. Haha

How should the petal compare to another E36 such as my 92 325i?

Just to give more description as to my problem part #8 on that last diagram was the one that was hitting the kick panel when I pressed on the gas. It was also causing a small gap to show up to the left of the steering wheel where the dash meets the panel level with your knees... hope you can find the solution to your problem... after owning saabs and an audi S4 I would say the m3 petal is not stiff at all. perhaps stiffer than some jap cars though.
