Well I just picked up a 95 s52 obd1 conversion m3. It has on older stage 1 ERT supercharger kit that I have a few questions about. First, can I safely run schrick cams with this? What kind of gains would I see? Also, I was talking to a friend and he said I should try to find a fmic for it. He said I could see gains up to 30whp. If this true? I was under the impression that on a kit boosting only 6psi a fmic wouldnt do much.

Thanks for any input, I was thinking about upping it to stage 2 over the winter, but due to the lack of potential beyond that, I might just use the money on cams (depending on the answers to my questions) and go turbo in the spring. :redspot

Running a FMIC on an ERT is tough. I run an aftercooler because of room and not wanting to move things like the power steering resevoir. Is you friend saying that you will only achieve 30whp with the suoercharger or from the cams?
You should be able to get much better then 30whp from the supercharger at 6 psi. Assuming a 15% loss due to tranferring power from the crank to the wheels you should see around 55-60whp.
On any CF supercharger and especially ERT Powerdyne you will create a lot of heat. Not a big issue in the fall, winter and spring but a big issue in the summer. You will have a consistent power with a FMIC or aftercooler as the heat sink of the supercharger will slowly like in 20-30 minutes or so in warm weather, rob you of horsepower. Assuming an 80 F day the output of the supercharger under boost will be close to 250 F, just search on Paul E's posts and I think MarkEsq also posted similar numbers. The intercoolr or aftercooler should drop that close to a 100 F so you don't lose lots of power due to density of the charge being low.....

He said I could achieve 30 more whp if I ran a fmic.

Thanks for the info, I'll check out some of those other posts.

you wanna look into an aftercooler. for your application ... its better than the FMIC. you will definately pick up power with the aftercooler .. even at the same boost level.

How much do those usually run? I dont really want to spend alot if Im just going to go turbo over the winter. I would really like to achieve atleast 400whp, but I heard thats impossible with this kit. Also, does anyone know about the cams? What kind of affect do they have on FI cars?

If you want 400whp and don't put an aftercooler in place then stop now and go to the turbo. It is better suited to a FMIC and you can get a lot more torque at lower rpms and reach your horsepower goal as well. My aftercooler is an RMS with some tweaks and we are talking around 1600 bucks uninstalled so if you are planning to go the turbo route then forget the aftercooler and the intercooler is much to hard to route without cutting up your car some.
Easiest of all is to go turbo and get the right tuning. Easy from the perspective you will have to get the right exhaust manifold that can be attached to the turbo and then feeding the turbo with oil and dumping it back to the pan. Routing the output of the turbo through the front bumper is much easier with the turbo, hot compressed gas in on the pass side and out on the drivers side to the engine.
I say cheapier because if you are handy you can do the work yourself. My aftercooler blocks access to everything on the intake side so trying to do anything on that side is difficult ot impossible without pulling the aftercooler.

Wow, 1600 is alot. How much of a gain would an aftercooler give me? Do you know anything else about this ert kit? I heard hitting 400 whp with it is impossible. What would cams do for me or are cams for an FI car kind of pointless? I think, if I cantg hit 400whp with this kit im definietly going to go turbo.
