Ok guys, it's for sale.
1989 BMW 325 iX. Black on Black. 4-door, 5-speed with approximately 240,000 miles. This is the rare all wheel drive monster that BMW only imported for a few years (88-91). They are hard to find and even harder to find running in decent condition.
It has all of the features of the e30 iX:
power windows, central locking including truck activated locks, manual sunroof, trip computer (needs replaced), leatherette seats, cruise control, A/C, etc.
Unlike most E30's, this interior is the gem of the car- it's why I picked it up. It's in Excellent condition. No cracks in the dash. Front seats are near mint see pic's). Headliner is intact. Carpets are in good shape, some fading of course. Door panels are all in perfect condition except drivers side. The panel be pulled away from the door on the bottom and when you do, you can see the 'leather' is coming unglued from the panel. This is a great condition interior.
The motor runs very strong. I have driven it from North Carolina to Pennsylvania; and between Pennsylvania and Michigan and back - with no issues, started every time and ran strong on the open road. I wish I had a garage to swap this engine into my second iX.
Exterior is in fair condition on most of the car. Paint is in reasonable shape. There is fading in a couple of spots on rear roof and two spots on trunk lid. Though not perfect, it is decent for it's age. There are two rusted areas behind the front wheel wells on both sides. I believe this is reasonably common with the iX, though not the standard e30. There is also a dent on the front edge of the hood. I never took it to a body shop so I don't know if it's worth fixing. I would probably replace all three (hood and two front quarter panels) if I was going to fix it.
Most of what it needs is with the car already. I purchased a used gas tank to address the gas smell apparent after filling up. The steering rack leaked fluid at a high rate when I bought it, so I stopped filling it up. It still drives, but there is considerable slop in the rack now. I purchased a used rack from a vehicle with 90k miles. Both of these are included with the vehicle.
A worsening noise over bumps was confirmed that the driver side front strut housing needs to be replaced. It still drives, but there is a loud thud when going over some bumps. These can be had for $200-300 from a used car.
I've already had a lot of the updating work done, the list includes:
- Complete new muffler from Catalytic conv back, incl mounting hardware. It was above the stock level and sounds a bit louder. sounds nice
- New front and rear Brembo rotors
- New front and rear Delux low dust brake pads
- New e-brake pads
- Front left sway bar link
- Fuel pump seal
- Fuel pump gasket
- New wipers
- Air filter
- Valve adjustment
- Diff fluids checked and filled
This one is a great project car, winter car, track(?) or even possible to use as a parts car. It runs, drives and is titled in PA. The odometer was swapped at some point in it's life. Carfax last reported mileage was ~230k miles. Odometer reads ~140k. Based on records that were included when I purchased it, good estimate is around 240k miles.
I recently accepted a job on the west coast and will be moving soon. I've decided to part with the car, since I won't be getting a house when I move. These cars are incredible in the snow and fun to drive as well.
I've spent over $3400 in total on the car. Every thing I can think of is listed here so there are no surprises. I want to move it quickly so I'm asking $2000 obo.
