i use to have a convert 99 with a 6speed/ltw flywheel back in 99. Gearing felt great, never had the chance to FI it since it was stolen shortly after. :( Either way it was well worth the upgrade.

I'm waiting until I kill my grinding in third tranny..I figure it should be the first track day with the turbo..
I may use the E46M3 six speed. Since they should be easier to find.
Anyone use the E46 gearbox?

I have a Euro E36 6spd on my 2.0lt M42, im NA so I have a 3.91LSD to shorten the gearing. I love this gearbox, one of the best upgrades on my car.
The Euro E36 M3 box will bolt right up to your engines because it has the narrow input shaft. In order to use the E46 6spd you will need to upgrade to the E46 M3 flywheel and clutch because the input shaft is bigger.

I figure the E46 would be more durable with the larger input shaft. But I can get a euro box from a buddy who imports stuff all th time.
Might be easier to instal the euro box.

But I can get a euro box from a buddy who imports stuff all th time. Might be easier to instal the euro box. This route you can use your std flywheel and clutch.

Yup. Since I have the UUC M5 STg 2 LTW and M5 clutch..
I guess I'll just look for the euro box...

what diff Ratio are you gonna use?
Gizmo330iT

For turbo, 6spd with 3.46LSD would be a nice setup. For NA, 3.73-3.91LSD.

I will be running the stock diff 3.23 for the time being, I have not completely decieded to go with the 3.46 or the 2.91 just yet
GGray
09-21-2006, 01:21 PM
I have the 3.38 in mine already. In NA form it was a vast improvement from the stock 3.15 with a six speed it would be really nice!
Gizmo330iT
09-21-2006, 01:29 PM
The 5spd 5th ratio is 1.00:1
The 6spd 6th ratio is 0.83:1, this with a 3.46LSD @ 6750rpm = 175mph!
How fast do you want to go? 3.38 will have even higher speeds...

On the topic of 6spd boxes, my dad wants one for his E34 M5, does anyone know if this has been done before? The M3 g/box bolt holes don't line up...

Not real concered with top speed, more for the overdrive. I am planning to do one lap in the car in 07 and overdrive would make it less tiring on the transit legs, some are 1000miles, and get better fuel economy.
Althoug being able to crack 180mph might be cool :cool

They actually put a six speed in the last E34 M5's with the 3.8 motors in them. ANd if I am not mistaken the 850i six speed bolts up to the S38 motor. I was looking at putting a S38 3.8 six speed combo into my 87 535is.

I still have an overdrive with 6spd 3.91 over the 5spd 3.46.

What are the prices for an evo e36 6spd vs a e46 6spd, with whatever would be needed to install it on an e36? (For the '46 box)
My buddy is never on the forums but has an e36 widebody turbo with euro 6-speed. He raves about the 6-speed so much! He loves it! I will wait until I blow my tranny and then I will get one fo sho! This is my idea as well, stock ZF until it blows, then a 6spd evo box.

Whats the best LSD/Diff. for the euro 6speed. trans + 95 3.2L turbo M3 (600 WHP) ? 2.93 / 3.15 Diff. by diffsonline ? or a euro evo M3 diff. ?:)

The Euro 3.2lt M3 has a 3.23LSD but has the big case diff with larger dia. output shaft splines, so if you get this you will need to change a few things. At 600WHP it would be a good idea to upgrade to the evo M3 diff...

Eurosport TwinScrew, ZF 6pd, 3.91 Diff. Faster than a speeding GT3, able to leap c5 z06's in a single bound. Usable top speed, 160mph at 7,000 rpm in 6th.
Clark Kent plain wrapper.
Still street,emissions legal.

how do you like the 3.91 with the TS?
and is it hard/impossible to get traction?
I would think that with the torque of the TS is would be a little to steep?? no???

Love it.
and is it hard/impossible to get traction?
No, mainly because the few street miles this car sees are all run on R-Comp Hoosiers. I sold my street wheels/tires, but I imagine first and second gears would have been pretty smokey affairs on them.
I would think that with the torque of the TS is would be a little to steep??
no???
The car WILL spin the 245/40's in 1st and 2nd, but you have to be deliberate about it. You really have to watch the tach in the lower gears to avoid overrevving the car.
But on the track, I am using 3rd thru 6th gear only, and it pulls awesomely....
