Good lord! I hardly have any modds, but I've sure spent a lot.
My dad ran the front of my car over a tire stop in a parking garage the first month i had the car because he wasnt used to driving a low car.............................................$6 00

Summer rolls around and i find out my A/C is intermittent, and replace it because was all hot.........................$300

Get a 10 inch sub for the trunk thats plug-n-play because i dont want to negate the warrenty/my dad made me sign something saying if he helped pay for the car i couldnt get a system like i had in my last car (yeah i dunno, he didnt want me to "ghettofy" a bmw or something along those lines.............$400

grill badge...couldnt help it................................$30 maybe?

chrome M3 licenseplate covers..........................$60?

V1 and remote display.......................................$430

clutch stop that ended up not working out so well because my clutch was worn, or i dont even know why.........$20

oil and tranny fluid change at dealership because im at college, and i cant do it myself/there arent any indepent shops for bmws around here.............................................. ...........$60

side indicator knocked out by this woman with an SUV when we went clubbin'.......................................... ..............$40

sideview mirror when some retread took it off.....$350

I think thats just about everything, but im planning on getting some DDEs, ZKWs, and HIDz for xmas, that should run me about 1K or so, and my tires are gone, i have such bad traction right now, so SO-3s.......dont even wanna know how much thats gonna run me. Xbrace.....havent gotten one yet, and i have a gift certificate for bavauto from a friend. So i think thats just about it, but i dont have much to show for all that money....:(
But hell, im not complainin'......i still love my baby.

So what have y'all done with however much money?

Wes

Im sponsored by a few companies but most of the work is from my hard earned $. Most of the companies I am sponsored by ended up replacing my old mods like Corbeau replaced my old black vadars. Im still very greatful for my sponsors as they helped me complete my car.

Thanks! :)

BTW i estimate from $25-$30k in mods..

Let's see here...

tint-$180

Brake light circuit...parents took to dealership..morons...$140

Bilstein sport shocks-$460

H&R Sport Springs-$240

Install on Shocks/Springs-$160

17x8" e46 7 spokes with 235/40/17 tires-$1100 bucks

3x Alignment when i first got the car+new springs shocks+new wheels tires: $175

Had to bite on that. Couldn't leave a chance like that hanging..anywho..

$25000+ in mods and upgrades and this is at WHOLESALE through my company.

Matt,

VAC is boring out enough for the iron sleeves and an additional milimeter in piston diameter. They will recalculate the displacement once the machining has finished. Estimates suggest a 4.55L, but that depends on the work being done to the crankshaft.
We are also looking at the feasability of using an M5 crankshaft and if we do the stroke will increase by 2mm, which will affect the total displacement as well.

Having been married for over 20 years, I learned early on to keep a couple of hundred dollars in my sock drawer for her to find when she is in the "I need some money" mode. Upon finding my bait stash, the search should cease and my real stash is safe and secure.
Another thing I do is have ALL credit card bills addressed to my office/work address. No need for a monthly billboard announcing my activities, arriving at my home for a Q&A session to follow.

The last tenent is to plan ahead and go slow. I place needed assets aside well in advance so there is no sudden hit. For instance this year's mods were planned last May after the One Lap and when the actual work started, most of the $$ needed were already put aside so there is no apparent disruption of the household cash flow.

Oh, One more thing......don't forget important dates like her birthday, Valentine's Day, anniversary, etc. If you do you are inviting scrutiny.

Cheers,

Let's see.

'93 325is, tax, tag, title, insurance $6000

Right rear wheel bearing $200
Belts $200 installed, lazy.
Dinan CAI $399
Dinan ECU $299
Dinan Tranny chip $199
Dinan Stage 1 suspension $827
Dinan Sways $298
M-Technic Moldings $350
ZKW's/Stoneguard $400
4 new rotors $250
Axxis Pads/ATE fluid $150
New window trim $150
New parcel shelf $100
New head unit $450
Speakers $300
Sub box $50
Cables and wires $150
M3 steering wheel $150
M3 wheels and tires $650
M3 exhaust $135
Bra $80
Replacement RR passenger panel $150
Wrecked 95 M3 for parts with shipping $5300

Now I'm at the scary place where labor is going to start moving that up even higher, as I do the engine/tranny swap. I expect by the end of March I'll easily be over $20k deep into this car.

Moral of the story? Buy an M3. ;)

Front and Side Clears = $55
Bosal Brospeed Exhaust = $265
M-tech Rear bumper = $200
M3 side skirts + installation stuff = $280
ACS Front Bumper (used cosmos black for now) = $300
Autothority intake = $75
17" Voxx Forza's with Nitto rubber = $630

Total = $1805

If I had bought all of these parts at retail price that total would be twice as much. I've got some painting to do to color match the bumper. Then the suspension. That should bring the total to around $2700.

I got the car for $10,500 with 53k miles. It will be 2 years in July. Just passed 80k a week or so ago.

I don't want to add up the money but I have done:

Full Dinan S1 kit
17 X 8 SSR GT1 wheels with Bridgestone 225/45/17 S03s

You can open up any picture editing program like microsoft paint or adobe photoshop and resize the picture then save it as a jpeg file.

To do it in microsoft paint open up the picture, click on image, then stretch skew, then enter in a value less than 100 to shrink the size of the picture (50% cuts it in half). Then click save as and select jpg file instead of bitmap.

Sticky,
Good Question!

In my case, the 68k I came up with as an estimate, was net of sponsorship. That is the out of pocket $$ (VAC Motorsports discounted parts & labor for last year's project) I shelled out.

BTW: I visited VAC Motorsports yesterday and if you add cams and a second port & polish of the heads to complete the oversized valves being installed along with some more goodies, it is closer to 73k out of pocket now.:(

Obviously the phrase "Speed Kills" refers to the wallet, especially when you go fast in style.

Less so, because everything is a question of "can I afford it". We don't have a white collar jobs, and we're not making 100k+ a year, so I should, in fact, be more concerned about how much money goes into my, and my boyfriend's, car. When you have to drive to 20 miles to get gas at 1.95 because you can't afford $50 bucks for a full tank, that's when you should question your saving up for a new suspension, or a body kit. I'm understanding because I'm the same way. True, 90% of the female population out there knows jack about cars, and hasn't done much (if any) aftermarket work to their cars. And true, that I AM on the other side of this, so that is probably why I really don't care how much money my BF puts into his own car. Very well thought out, and lot's of good points. However, when you mention you don't make 100k a year, that is exactly the point. Some guys here blow 10k in one shot on their car. That does not mean they will not be able to take their girlfriend to inn and out, but instead, that they will not be able to remodel the kitchen, or get their wife that new rolex she wants. So that is why it is a big deal, we are talking of BIG numbers here and members with wives, not temporary relationships.

It is a good idea to start by spelling SPONSOR correctly. :D

Usually, people are able to get sponsored after already investing a good amount of money in their own vehicle. As they take their car from show to show, and get more exposure, people will be willing to invest money in a car they know is already hot.
