View Full Version : Need a receiver hitch
I am looking for a receiver hitch for my 2006 mini cooper. It’s for my bike rack, so I won’t need the electrical wiring hooked up. I don’t want the sport link attachment.
Has anybody experience with any of the few aftermarket products that are out there? How easy is the installation? Any links to vendors? Thanks!

links on motoringfile.com to other vendors of hitches - look on the right side for miniature trailers, or something like that.

Search motoringfile.com for "miniature trailers" and you will find a great article, with pros and cons, pics, lots of details......
The miniature trailer is kind of pricy, isn't it?
Does anybody have experience with the one from drophich.com? It goes for $210.

I saw the Minature Trailers product at MINIs On Top (http://www.minisontop.com) this year and it is quite impressive. The hitch is of excellent build quality and well-designed. It seemed quite strong and secure; clearly capable of handling its tow rating.
The only other hitch/attachment device I have personally seen is the Sportlink. It is kind of neat looking, but I don't like the restriction of having to purchase manufacturer-specific products for it.
The Drophitch (Delan) product only fits the Cooper and not the Cooper S. It exits below the rear skirt of the MINI which may cause some clearance problems with lowered cars. The Miniture Trailers hitch exits from the fog/backup light cutout and does not affect road clearance; it also is invisible when not in use!
Remember, you get what you pay for!

Aaron of Outmotoring reviewed the MINIature Trailers hitch in THIS (http://motoringfile.com/2006/07/10/miniature-trailer%E2%80%99s-receiver-hitch-reviewed/) Motoring File article. Outmotoring (http://www.outmotoring.com/exterior_bike_racks.html) carries both the MINI Fini Sportlink and the MINIature Trailers products.

How hard is it to negotiate turns and everyday driving with a trailer? A friend told me that you just avoid reversing as much as possible. And if you get a trailer on your mini I really want to know how it works, always thought it would be cool.
