My front bumper is in need of a repaint but I want to use paint that isn't as susceptible to chips as the factory paint. Does this paint exist in BMW factory colors? Or can I use an additive, like using a flex agent additive, but a chip resistant additive??

Only thing you can do is put on Stongard or any 3M protective material and that is it, nothing out there is chip proof.

From my experiences with paint....I recommend using the highest quality paint, I know Glasurite and Dupont makes the BMW colors and clear coat this will help with the rock chips.. also make sure your body shop uses a lot of the Flex when mixing your paint it will help...the only other thing is to do to use Stongard

Thanks guys. I'll try to get extra flex additive but I'll have to pass on the stonegard. Never quite acquired a taste for that stuff on the paint. Only the lights:D

DID somebody say StonGard;)

I'm sure I could get you a good deal on the stuff - we're doing a 5% additional off our prices if you order by Monday 4pm:) We cut a deal with the factory.

If you are worried about the stongard screwin up your paint or making your car looks real nasty, take a look at my car at of the end of this month when I am back in town.
Most of PCASD (Porsche Club America of San Diego) run stongard and have no problem whatsoever. Don't know if that will convince you enough, yes I am that club and that is how I learned to drive first during a driving school, and let me tell you driving a bimmer is alot more forgiving than a porsche with no traction control. With all the crap I hit on the freeway anywhere from tire blow outs to big crap flying all over the place, this has saved me lots of money from repainting my front bumper. It is a good investment and you should have a professional install it so it doesn't have any bubbles and what not.

Just a thought of reinforcement, but its your money and your car in the end.
