View Full Version : Fuel pressure at the rail
Hey guys and gals!
My mechanic has been working on my "hesitation" problem and feels that the fuel pump is failing and not providing high enough pressure.
Does anyone know what it should be, tested at the fuel rail check point?
It measured about 50 psi on mine.
TIA!

Anyone? Q? I can't find the info anywhere...

What kind of hesitation problem are you experiencing? I have hesitation/hiccuping problem at higher rpms >5,000.

Mine is from idle, if I "blurp" it. Gentle rev-up is fine all the way up, but when I just punch it, it (RPMs) drops first, then builds up. There is a check valve right under the engine cover. My mechanic connected his fuel presure guage to it and it read about 50 psi. He feels that it should be higher and recommends that I replace the fuel pump. I don't have a problem with that, but wonder what's normal.

The BMW TIS spec for this model is 3.5 bar +/-.2bar (1 bar = 1 atmosphere = 14.7 psi) so 3.5 bar is 50psi. I have a 98 740il that has only 25psi at the rail. Runs fine (a little sluggish) but has a warm start issue. I am leaning towards the fuel pump on mine but 50 psi on yours is well within spec. Your mechanic is guessing.
