Ok everyone. I have a plan to do a nice sounding exhaust on wolfie, but i dont want to break the wallet in doing so. Im going to be deleting the catatlytic converter from him probably in may. I dont plan on going over 5k miles a year, so doing this shouldnt be a problem as ill be exempt to emissions :redspot . (i worked at a PA inspection station this past summer so i asked the owner what i could legally get done to the car...so im all good). What i want to do, is when that is being removed, i thought, maybe ill put in a nicer flowing/sounding exhaust and muffler to go with the occasion. The PO has replaced the cat-back with a stock 'bosal' i believe it is. Its in great shape, i just want something with a nice rasp or growl. Ive heard of just taking a flowmaster, magnaflow, or something like that and just giving it to a muffler fabricator and let them make the exhaust. I know someone who would probably do that for cheap too. My question is, has anyone done some nice sounding performance exhausts for their 6ers? If so, are you happy with the results, did you do a custom one, or just replace the factory with something better. Also, has anyone with a U.S. car ever gotten rid of their cat?

You might try the Cat removal first. Replacing it with a pair of pipes sounds good to my ear. You can always go back and replace the muffler later.

this is true. And the pipe it self will be a lot cheaper than a muffler as well. My car has the older style single pipe cat, so i guess ill have to do the Y pipe to make it work, shouldnt be too bad though. Ill measure everything out for the mechanic so all he has to do is cut and weld for me, anything to get the hourly labor rate down is good for me! Thanks for the advice.

what do you mean by a cherry bomb? I am thinking that i am going to end with the TCD exhaust, or something extremely similar.

I put a Supersprint on my 83 628. Sounds wonderful and gain some power too. They have complete exhaust from headers back without cat. But would break you wallet and maybe a credit card. I paid 1200 for cat back system. supersprint

ouch...yea that is a little pricey for my bank. Im going to see what happens. Im def going to just do a y-pipe for the cat replacement at this point because its going to be cheaper than anything, and my cat is toast as it is.
