Has anyone removed their fan?

I am going to r/r my alternator tomorrow and the only good instructions I found on www.e38.org (http://www.e38.org/) didn't explain the exact measurement of the tools involved.

http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/119957

The instructions list an adjustable wrench (which, in my opinion, is an unreliable tool).

I want to know the exact measurement of the nut on there because I would rather use a crescent wrench.

So, does anyone know the exact size of the crescent wrench I should use?

Thanks.

I did it a while back on my E32 and I had to buy a wrench. I'm pretty sure that it was 32mm. At least in my case an adjustable wrench would not have worked. It had to be fairly thin and an adjustable wrench was too thick to fit. I also made the holder tool out of bar stock, but I drilled two holes to go over two bolts and ground away the side to clear the hub. If one bolt hole works, that would have been a lot easier.

God bless you DaveClement.

I got a 3' flatbar, but I got aluminum. It's thick and I think it will be fine, but I just couldn't imagine myself drilling through a steel flatbar.

I'll go buy a 32mm long-handle wrench before I start. If it's the wrong size, then I don't mind going back to the store for more tools (heaven knows I'm used to doing that in the middle of a project).

:D Thanks DaveClement, you're a God among men.
