I got a three piece set of allen sockets from Auto Zone with 12,14 and 17mm sizes. I am needing to cut the 14mm in order to make it fit on the fill plug. What did you guys use to cut it with? Thanks.

A hacksaw or cutoff wheel should do it.

Nope. I'm just going to have my mechanic do it for me.

I got the same set and I grinded it down.....still didnt work. The piece (surrounding the allen part) is too long. And I grinded it pretty much as far down as it could go, while still allowing enough metal for it to work properly. I would suggest just spending the LESS THAN $20 on a quality socket from 'BimmerZ5' here on the forums....works great and you'll always have it. IMO.

Heres the link for his thread...

If you can remove the allen key from the socket, you can use a box wrench in combination with the 14mm to remove the plugs.

dude, PM me if your interested in one. Theres a place local for me that sells them for 6 dollars i think. Its an L shaped allen key, but it fit and worked fine. Let me know if anyone wants one and ill price them and ship them to you as a favor.

What I did was just find a 14mm nut and a bolt that it fit onto, and welded the nut onto the bolt, then cut off the excess threads.

The problem with using an allen key is that you can't torque the plug back down to spec.

You're probably fine getting it by hand, but...

lol, yeah your right. Ive always done drain bolts by feel without problems. Oil/diff/tranny.

Make sure you use new crush washers.
