Why would my 4/94 production date M3 have a 413 sliver label DME??

Based on what I've read, my 4/94 production date should be a 506 DME. Furthermore, because the 413 sliver has EWS-II, my car should not run with this DME (unless the EEPROM has been replaced with an EEPROM with EWS-II delete). My understanding was that my DME and EEPROM were completely stock. Based on what I've read this cannot be the case...

I suppose the logical explanation is that someone installed a 413 sliver DME with an EWS delete EEPROM.

Is there some other logical explanation?

Where might I look for other EWS-II components on my car, just to be sure??

Is there a diff between a 413 sliver and 413 red beyond the EEPROM??

If you replaced the EEPROM in a 413 sliver DME with the EEPROM from a 413 red DME or a 506 DME would the DME then function in an early i.e. non EWS-II '95 M3??

Maybe I should've put this in the FI Forum?? (Even though it's not)

if I am not mistaken, my 6/94 325 has a silver 413 DME...its non EWS, and I know for a fact that it does not have an EWS delete chip, as I took the stock one out and put mine in....so obviously all the silver 413 are not EWS...

Hmmm... interesting.

Turner seems to think silver 413 = EWSII

I don't know if the M makes a difference.

The question I'm currently researching is...

If I put a factory EERPOM from a non-EWSII DME in a DME that was originally EWSII, have I converted it to non EWSII??

I believe so.

I believe a 506 chip will work in my 413 silver DME because my car didn't originally come with EWSII.

Only after 12/94 prod. date will a silver label 413 have EWS.

So you're saying that some cars produced before 12/94 may have infact come with a silver label 413 as original equipment. Also, not all 413 silver DMEs are EWS (early aren't, late are)?

Yeah, that's right.
