if your cat is operating "below threshold" is it necessarily gonna fail soon or should I just keep an eye on it for the next 20k miles? Also is it about a 2k dollar repair if I were to go OEM?

might want to get it checked out soon. You might not feel any difference in driving but one can only imagine it will get worse. You might see a slight mpg drop. Did the car throw a CEL? As for the repair I don't think it should cost 2k.

it threw the cel 8months ago and hasn't returned. BMW indy mechanic just looked over the car and said the cat looked "okay"

Why would it cost you 2k? You know you can get them used for 200-300 max.

Second one on the page.

It bolted right up just fine, but I dont know how to give an accurate review besides that. I haven't needed to be smogged and it is supposed just not be legal in CA.

From what I have seen of others it was an easy bolt on. I was going to DIY, but it was 100F+ all week and I needed to get it done so I brought it to the muffler shop.
