View Full Version : Paint Work, how to document so it doesn't kill resale

My front end looks like it was sand blasted from the previous owner. I am thinking about in the future when and if I have the cash to do a repaint. Other than taking hundreds of pictures of the process what should I do to document it so the resale is not affected by concerns that the car was damaged? It's really just the nose and hood. I do have a scrape on the rear quarter and would document that but what else should I consider? Take in mind the car has 112K on it and I don't plan on selling it but things can change quickly with 4 kids. LOL

gregg,

call up your insurance and use your "comprehensive" part of your insurance...if you carry it. then tell them that a trunk carrying gravel/sand sprayed your car on the freeway...you car should be insured.

for me..a truck carried gravel was in front of me and a rock flew on to my front grill and hit my windshield..called the insurance and it was covered under comprehensive...less deductible.

btw. using comprehensive will not increase your premiums.

I'm in the process of completing a sale for a 97 m3 with DSII's. Im interested in your CSLs. Can you tell me more about them, reps? offset? width? diameter? look like 19s.

They are genuine BMW CSL/M3 comp package front wheels. 19X8 or 8.5 can't remember. They are made by BBS for BMW. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport II's at 235/35/19 with about 95% tread. Not sure on offset but I have Rogue spacers and lugs that go with them. The wheels are awesome shape and beautiful in person. I hate to get rid of them but I need the cash to keep the car.:( BTW the wheels are like $700 to $800 each from BMW and the tires are about $300 each new! I am looking for about $1500 and swap wheels and tires in great condition for trade.

although comp claims tend to have less impact on your premium, this statement is not true. any frequent claims whether at fault, not at fault, comp or collision will effect premium. if the insurance company feels the number of claims is excessive it will increase your rate.

Just make sure they mask off any VIN stickers before the paint.

CSL fronts are not the same as ZCP fronts. You have the 19x8 ZCP wheels if you got them from a dealer here in the US.

I have no idea. I bought them from someone else. I assume you are correct though since I highly doubt they had them shipped from Europe. I am pulling them off to do a thorough cleaning and will look for indentifying numbers. All I remember seeing was the BBS logo and the writing around the lug area. I know they are genuine but not sure on ZCP or CSL. Either way they are nice as hell.:D

They should have the size and offset stamped on the faces near the center of the wheel.
