OK HERE IS MY DILEMMA. I STARTED TO REPLACE MY PASSENGER SIDE FOGLAMP ON MY E38 AND WHEN I PULLED IT OUT, THERE WAS NOTHING CONNECTED. WELL ANYWAY, I FOUND THE WIRES TIED UP. I CHECKED THEM FOR POWER AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE DRIVER SIDE WORKS FINE. ANY SUGGESTIONS?:help

whoever you bought the car from broke it and tied it up for some reason:(

Yeah, like there's a short in the wiring somewhere so when the previous owner turned on the foglamps, the pax side would short out and blow a fuse somewhere. Look for the blown fuse, and then look for worn/defective wiring, like the plastic covering worn off where it passes through a body panel.

It didn't come out of the factory like that, I can assure you.

I believe the previous owner hit something in the road because of visual damage to the underside near the foglight. I think that I can just tap into the wiring from the driver side foglamp and be ok.

You are probably getting a message on your dash to check front fog lights, right? Each bulb is tested automatically. If you tap into the other side you will continue to get these messages. I'd recommend tracing the wires to see if there is a loose or broken connection somewhere.

I'm getting no messages.

My friend had this same problem with his E38, We couldn't find a single fuse for it, or any wiring problems. So we taped into the wiring for the other side and ran it off of there, and now it works fine, also he had no indcations on his gauges of the problem either. I think that'll be the best bet if nothing else works.

I would check the wire for continuity with the car not on. Just to make sure there are no shorts or opens in the system. Running a wire from the other side to me is just a temporary bandaid for when I am crunched on time. If it is blowing fuses then there is a short somewhere in the system.

Well I think I'm going to take the easy route and be done with it. I can't stand not having any fogs. I just put in a new set of headlights and want to be done with it. Thanks for all the help and I'll post how it turns out.

Everything is done but I really need to replace the passenger foglight. There was no backing so i had some old connectors to rig it up. I guess I'll be ordering a new one from Bekkers tonight.
