so my car has been running pretty much fine as it approaches 200k, but since that milestone is coming up, i decided to take care of a lot of maintenance things and wow she feels just THAT much better.

the things i tackled were:

new belts

new tensioner pulley (mine was squealing)

new pads and rotors

new parking break shoes

new fuel filter including the 2 short rubber hoses on each end as they looked to be cracking.

new spark plugs

new air filter

oil/filter change (using Liqui Moly engine flush beforehand, which i think made a noticable difference)

She's feelin' awesome! :redspot

I was also going to adjust the throttle cable, but i checked and it didn't need any adjusting.

My car only has 36,400 miles on it right now. I bought it with 23,314 miles on it last year. Nearing 200k is a long ways for me.

Yeah, i got her w/ 56k on the dial, and she's been my only car, so she's been everywhere w/ me and has taken everything i've thrown at her. I'm hoping she atleast lasts another 50k. If after that she blows up, i won't be upset, as she will have served her time (awesomely) and then some.

Oh, here's a quick pic of what she looks like these days. The pic in my sig was back in what i consider her prime. She has since been stockified pretty much.

Great post, love to read stuff like that.

What is that Liqui Moly engine flush thing? Kinda like Seafoam?

Not really sure, as i've never looked into Seafoam, but it's basically a cleaning agent that you add to the current engine oil, and then you run the engine for 10 minutes at idle. Afterwards you go ahead and change the oil. It's supposed to clean the engine of all kinds of nasties.

This is very comforting...

I am nearing 100k and thinking how much longer will I expect this car to last. I've had it since 23k, and to see a post like this is very promising.

I need to get my hands dirty and start learning how to tackle some of this DIY preventive maintenance.

How's the little rattles in your car, if any... Is that something that gets worse over time too? Or it just pretty much remains the same?

Are we talking engine? or body/interior? For the most part though, my car feels/sounds pretty solid. No major rattles that i've noticed.

^^^ I guess... both... now that you mentioned engine, but I was referring more towards interior.

That's incredible man congrats. Any advice for the rest of us on making our cars last that long? I'd love for mine to hit 200k one day

Yeah as far as interior, i don't really have any rattles or squeaks or anything. Only thing i can think of would be that there's a rattle that can be heard from outside the car when i turn my music up kinda loud. It's coming from the driverside kick panel somewhere, but i can't hear it while in the car.

Marin Headlands?

Yeah, i was up in SF this past weekend apartment hunting, as i'm moving back up again for the upcoming school year. Figured i'd take the GF to see the view after spending an exhausting day of apartment hunting.

Honestly, i don't really think i've done much out of the ordinary to keep her going. Mainly just changing the oil as necessary, and maybe adding fuel system cleaners to my gas every now and then.

Yeah, change your ALL your fluids at regular intervals. Check your oil once a week if you drive hard.

Congrats on breaking the 200K barrier. :redspot :redspot I just broke 125K on mine. I just changed the charcoal filter (engine light went on, but no code) and my coolant level sensor (I think they go bad every 3 years).

Yeah, i think my coolant level sensor needs to be changed, but aparently it fixed itself recently, cause it's no longer tripping the OBC.

oh and ///RBR, last night i drove around w/ the radio off and the windows up and listened for any noises. Only things i heard were a very quiet squeak from my seatbelt (the swiveling part that it hangs from) and a very subtle rattle from what seems to be the rear deck but that was only at a specific low RPM. Both of these were virtually unnoticable. Only way i would have ever heard them was by sitting there and really listening like i did last night.

^^^ :buttrock

Once I figure out my rattles/squeaks I will be a happy man.

I got one coming from the back (must check RSM) rear panel (rolling ball in tin can), passenger side vader squeaking when there is no passenger, and then last night a faint cyclic thud sound when going 10-15mph on 1st (2-3k rpm) coming from underneath/rear seat :dunno.

I don't hear much from the engine though which is :alright .

Hmm, don't know what the thud might be, but if it were me, that would have me concerned. I'd look into that asap.
