I covered my chrome with electric tape. Looked great when I first did it, but now three months later I have this:

Finally got sick of it last night and took it off. Had to clean up a bunch of residue, then painted it matte black:

Much better. Kinda rough to the touch, but I hardly ever stand there and run my fingers all over my trim so I really don't mind hehe. So if you shadowline with tape, don't use generic vinyl electric tape, or you may find yourself redoing it down the road ;)

Haha, I ran into the same problem. Only mine lasted 2-3days. Looked straight ghetto

Umm, guys, try this...... http://www.autobodydepot.net/scripts/depot.exe?pgm=3m850.bbx

Auto Body Depot sells the proper 3M 1/2" trim tape online (been searching forever!). Just plug in the item number (Low Gloss Black > #72793, Gloss Black > #72702) and run a search.

Strahan, did you paint your trim while still on the car.

2 rolls of the 1/2 should do it. I can't remember how much is on a roll of this stuff though. I blacked out the chrome trim on a VERY largre US sedan....see name....and used about 1 1/2 rolls. It was on the car when I sold it some 9 years later. It was never retouched nor did it ever peel, shrink or otherwise fail. When trimming just make sure your blade is VERY sharp.

Yea, I thought about taking it off but figured it'd be a big PITA, so I just bought some painter's tape and a bunch of newspaper and covered everything off.
