I know there are different locations for the fuel filter. I have a 92 325i, anyone know where exactly it is located? I am going to change it tomorrow. Pics would help also. thanks

Bentley manual says it's mounted on the left front motor mount (early 6 cylinder models). I went poking around with a flashlight and couldn't definitively spot it, but the car is still hot and I didn't want to get too close just yet.

its somewhere under the front driversside part of the car, somwhere under the intake manifold, near the power steering resovoir.

i was with taseal when he was doing his, he was diggin around there the whole time.

its easy to see, just to on the drivers side next to bell housing and shielded in front by a piece of metal. If anything follow the fuel lines.

earlier E36 is locate under the intake manifold near the firewall(shorter fuel filter), later E36(longer fuel filter) mount on the driver side under the car which is way easier than earlier E36...

Just did mine today on my 320i... WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!
There are so many hoses and pipes in the way that it's impossible to get even one hand in there, let alone a wrench!
Had to remove the air box and throttle body intake pipe to access it from the top... no shot from the bottom.
I can't see me doing this every 16,000km.

Here's a link for the later E36;

Same deal for the earlier E36, you just gotta get at it from the top (after you remove all the crap in the way).

It's actualy pretty easy to see from under the car becasue it sits more or less right above the motor mount arm. I would almost say that you'd get under there anyway be cause good luck getting the bottom end of the nipple into the fuel line from above.. lol..

Undo the fuel line from the intake manifold, then losen the clamp holding the filter, then get under the car and pull the filter down so you can access the bottom hose clamp and remove the line. After draining it as much as you can, push it back up through the mess of hoses, go back up top and pull it out (takes some maneuvering).
