Honest, I didn't do it! My wife forgot to set the parking brake and our Mini rolled out of the garage and side swiped another car. Luckily, only the outside passenger-side mirror was damaged. The mirror is now loose on it's mount and the mirror itself, is broken.

I have two questions:

1) Is it a difficult job to replace the exterior mirror? Any special tools
needed?

2) Where would be the cheapest place to purchase a new or used one?
I've checked on E-Bay and other web sites and I hate the idea of
having to go give my $$$ to the stealer :mad

Again, the car is a 2006 Mini Cooper "S", red w/white top & mirrors

Well, the mirror caps are changeable.... so if you can find one in any color, you can then find a white cap to make it look right. Just an option if you want. They snap on and off pretty easily. I have no idea who expensive the mirror housing is though. Maybe try some of the aftermarket parts companies like Moss, MyMINIparts, MINImania.... something.

You are in luck! I've got both sides off my 2006 Chili Red/white that have a total of 11 miles on them siting in boxes. Yaa, Jenn is right, the mirror caps snap on and off. My MA said that they are a little difficult and to watch out for the little snaps. Send me a PM.

I just bought a right side mirror from another guy, but if I need your caps, I'll let you know.

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully, I'll get this together real soon. :alright

Was anyone able to install mini cooper mirror assembly (not just the white covers) and how? Is there a book available with instructions? I bought a mirror online after an SUV took out mirror but I have no idea how to install, it looks like I have to remove door panel from inside and go in that way. FUN!

The install is a breeze. You do not have to remove door panel if you have the complete mirror assembly. My mirror was not originally heated, so check to make sure you have the correct replacement.

Take your mirror, if it's still mounted and turn the housing until you can see the allen screws. Take the proper size allen key and remove all three screws. It takes a while, since they are all long screws. To mount the new cap to your mirror, you'll have to pop the glass out. If it's still good, be very careful and pry with a tool that will allow you to pop it from the top or bottom. I cracked mine because I pried it from the side. Once the mirror is out, you have access to the clips that hold the exterior cap on.

The old mirror unplugs and the new mirror plugs right in. Make sure you have the rubber gasket on the mirror to protect the body before you make the electrical connection. Once the connection is made, check to make sure the mirror works and then tighten everything back down and you're done.

Look at the links on motoringfile.com........there are a lot of DIY links and accurate information from the MINI tech system.
