View Full Version : Lightweight flywheel / 318is - what to get?

I am considering upgrading to a lightweight flywheel and performance clutch. It will help when I supercharge my little M42. I read that the UUC / M5 clutch can create some vibrations. The same has been reported with lightweight Fidanza flywheels with the M3 clutch. Also, rpms apparently drop quickly and can make you can stall if you do not pay attention. They all seem to fit tightly, which can make the install difficult.
Please discuss your experience. Any advice will be welcome.
Thanks.

The "problems" you've mentioned are generally characteristic of any LTW flywheel, regardless of the car it's going on. As far as the RPM drop deal, that is something you will probably get used to quickly.

Especially in four bangers which have lots of harmonic imbalances. Nothing you can do about it...the pros outweigh the cons however. I love my ltw flywheel w/ stock clutch. See sig

I'll let you know once I get it on... got the Fidanza M3 fly and a clutch waiting to go in.

Did you have a winter package or something? I didn't know 318's could come with an LSD.

Please let me know. It's not urgent, but at some point I will have to change my clutch...
