I need to drain my power steering and brake fluid because they are dirty and need a change. What is the best way to go about draining these fluids?
I was thinking for the power steering I could disconect the hose that goes from the resivor (Sp) tho the pump to drain most of the fluid prolly wont get it all. For the brakes the only thing I could think of is bleeding them empty.
Is there any better way to go about changing these fluids?
thanks

I did it with a friend by removing as much as possible from the brake fluid reservoir using a turkey baster. After that the old fluid was removed by bleeding in the new fluid. I highly recommend changing the brake fluid colors though, as it was imposible to tell when the old fluid stopped and new fluid began when they were both blue!

Yes. if you attempt to "drain" the brakes you'll introduce a lot of air into the system and cause yourself a lot of heartache.

It shouldn't be that bad you got a better way.
Mr.M thats a good way thanks .
Now what about the power steering I heard I could also use a turkey baster but that would only be changing some of the fluid not all and I wanna change it all if I could.

If you're going to disconnect the hoses from the PS res to drain the fluid, you might as well replace the hoses and the res. The hoses will eventually leak, and the res ahs a filter built into it. Someone on the boards has buth hoses and clamps for like $25 or so. I disconnected the hoses, replaced them and the res. Then I filled the res with new fluid, and flushed the system out by turning the wheel a few times each way with the return hose draining into a bucket.

Thanks for the tip, I plan on changing the hose as I think it already has a small leak.

I just read that the power steering fluid filter is in the resevior.
Is this true. Would it be smart to also change this when changing the hose and fluid?
