Well, I was going to refinish some wheels myself but due to the fact I had to take summer school and I don't have any clue what I am doing, I'm checking out my options. Any good wheel refinishing places in the Austin/SA area?

Wheels America is based out of San Antonio.

TSA sends all their wheels to them, well rather WA comes to TSA and picks them up/drops them off the next day.

I have a set of wheels at Colvin Automotive on Hancock right now. They are still being worked on, so I can't comment on the quality of the work yet, but I will say this - it takes a while. When I brought them in, I made the mistake of saying I didn't need them right away, and it has dragged on. On the other hand, shipping or taking the wheels to Wheels America in SA would have cost a bit.

I expect to get the wheels from Colvin this week Monday or Tuesday, I will let you know how they came out.

^ correct

What does Colvin Automotive charge per wheel? I'd rather go with somebody who can do a bit more of a custom job since I'd really like silver with a polished lip.

I will let you know what my final bill is, I haven't got them back yet. I got a set of E39 Style 5 (2-piece BBS) off ebay for my E30 M3. I needed had to have two barrels straightened, and old clearcoat removed from all four, and some curbage repair. I decided to clearcoat the machined barrels again rather than polish the lips, but the whole thing for four wheels was estimated around $150/wheel - much of that is for the clearcoating. I expect another $80-100 for mounting/balancing - I drop-shipped tires from Tire Rack to Colvin.

Shipping to/from San Antonio would have been $150-200, but I didn't know they would pick them up from TSA, that is good to know. I have heard both good and bad about Wheels America, which is why I decided to try Colvin.

They are now telling me end of this week.

I haven't forgotten about this - I stopped at Colvin today to check out the progress on my wheels, and they just got the barrels back from the paint shop - unfortunately, two will need to be redone, as they turned out cloudy, something to do with the painter messing up the application process. So it will probably be another week. The good news is they are going to look absolutely awesome. Which proves the old saying - patience comes to he who waits....

By the way, I should say, Daniel told me as soon as I walked in that I probably wouldn't be happy, and they were going to redo them, they didn't even try to see if I wouldn't notice. The difference is subtle - props to Colvin for standing behind their work.

I would hate to have to deal with an issue like this long distance or with shipping back and forth.
