So I've been reading a lot about strut braces and strut bars and front and rear and all this and I have no idea what any of this is and definitions don't really make sense to me. What do they do? How do they help? Where do they go?

they're bars that attach to the shock towers in the engine bay and trunk area to add more stiffness to the body and reduce chassis flex
