i got 2 cheapy kellys on the front of my car taht are in almost new shape, i got 2 toyo's on the back that are shot.

im trying to convince myself to get 4 of the kuhmo ecstas and just deal with getting 4 new tires so they match up etc... but am having a hard time convincing myself to do so.

SO I NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT! GIVE ME SOME GOOD REASONS (LOTS OF THEM) to go ahead and get 4 ultra high performance all season tires! maybe im kuhmo reviews from you guys!

There are plenty of good reasons to have 4 matching tires (tracking, adhesion, wear, 'feel', etc.). Do it. Your car will reward you.

I prefer Bridgestones, myself. Previous car had Potenzas, and my 325 has Turanzas (stock wheels). When I upgrade the wheels, I'll probably go back to the Potenzas, though the Turanzas are excellent as well.

Never had Kumhos, so can't really comment on them specifically...

heres the master plan, get 2 new kumhos(if thats ur flavor) and put them on the front. put the cheapies on the back, and then enter a burnout contest that night. shred the cheapy tires up realll nice, have fun while doing it, then u will have to get 2 more tires...

how would having lower rated tires on my front and nice ones on the back hurt my cars performance? (you're beginning to convince me)

im leaning towards the kuhmo because..

1. they're only $49 a piece
2. ultra high performance all season
3. REALLY REALLY good reviews throughout tirerack
4. any goodyear etc. place has quoted me $100 for any tire that is rated for my car

how would having lower rated tires on my front and nice ones on the back hurt my cars performance? (you're beginning to convince me)because the front tires steer & stop the vehicle. It's a critical feature to anything that moves. ;)

BTW, I have 3 different tires on my car not counting the spare...

I'm getting new tires pretty soon here to and I decided to go with new tires all around. I am getting Hankook Ventus HRII and actually, I am going with new rims to.

I find having different tires front and bad doesnt look all that great. Makes you look like a cheapo.

Thats also a very good way of doing it. I'm actually going to do that once I get my new rims and tires:buttrock Thats gonna be fun, can't wait lol.

my good tires are on the front ;) Trust me, I want to get a matched set since the same back tire always looses traction because it isn't as good as the tire on the other side. I need to fix this before it snows because if I nail the brakes, I bet it would pull

It drives me crazy to see a car riding on a set of mismatched tires. Looks like crap, probably drives like crap, and hurts the re-sale value of the car. Driving in the rain w/ mismatched tires is actually a safety hazzard. Google it, I'm sure there is something on that issue.

I have purchased about 4 sets of tires in my life, and everytime I have bought a matching set.

As for Kumho's, I ran Kumho Ecsta 711's on my previous 16" BMW rims and I remember they rode nice for about 5K miles, but after that they tended to generate a humming road noise. I have since convinced myself that I will never go cheap on tires again and I now run Toyo Proxes 4's on my 18" CSL's, $700 a set, but oh so worth every penny.

Kuhmo's are decent tires, they have come a long way since their inception. Personally I have run Michelin's for a while, as well as Nitto Extremes on some other cars. I would say for an affordable tire, go with the Kuhmo's. :) All around for street use they are a good tire. I do NOT recommend however Yokahama's. They seem to wear very fast, at least the ones I've had.

i think i'll be a cheap person and just replace the 2 back tires. i'll move the fronts to the back and will not worry about spinning out so much and taking hard corners etc that way i can wear out those cheap tires faster.

Better to pay now then to pay later. Invest in a good set of tires now instead of having the car slide out/lose control/or whatever due to crappy tires.

If anything, just keep the tires instead of throwing them away in case you need them in the future or something.

Or you can just do burn outs till they die :)

I ran a set of 711's that came with a set of wheels I bought. The word "garbage" doesn't even begine to describe them. They had little grip in the dry, the sidewalls were so flimsy that they get scrub marks within 1/2" of the rim, and were worthless in the wet. Moral of the story, don't run tires with a 340 treadwear and expect to get any performance out of them.

i say just go for the full set, 79 each isnt bad. my sister pays 170-200 PER TIRE on her 3000gt. thats for z rated radials though. and she is required to run them. HAHAHA

I've gotten my best amatuer numbers running 712's. I paid $500 for the complete set, and they're the best tires I've ever had. I can swear by them. You can't go wrong with Kumhos. When I've run other tires, I've gotten slower times in my quarter mile, 0-60, and skidpad (roadholding) results.

I had to get rid of them when I upgraded my wheels again to 17x8. Now I'm running a set of Michelin pilot sports and they're just as good as the Kumhos. They were $1000 for the set, and they came with the wheels and were brand new (maybe 200 miles on them). Michelin and Kumho are the only tire I'll ever use. Jap brands are out, as well as anything made by firestone/bridgestone.

Mixing tires on a car changes the handling characteristics - and not for the better. Your car will handle more predictably and consistently when running the same tire on all four corners.

If you have to do a panic stop, that is the WRONG time to discover that one pair of tires have more stopping power than the others.

I say sell the tires with tread remaining on Craigslist and get four matching tires on it.

A set of 4 quality tires (Bridgestone Potenza, Michelin PS2) for the M5 is almost $1500.

$79 for tires isn't bad. Save your pennies as quickly as possible or borrow some, buy a full set of 4, and pay back the money you borrowed ASAP.

Tires and brakes are NOT places to skimp.
