View Full Version : Selling 1988 325is with 19,000 original miles!

No, that is not a typo! I am selling my pristine E30 325is with only 19,000 original miles. Here are some details about the car:

- I am the second owner.
- I have all books and records.
- The car is completely stock (it still has the original tires on it).
- It is black with dark red interior.

To put it simply, I believe that this is one of the nicest and lowest-mile 325is E30s in existence. It is like going back in time and buying a new BMW. The car still smells new and the condition is amazing inside and out. It runs and drives beautifully. The car is located in Salina, Kansas.

I am looking for $13,100 or best offer out of the car. I would consider trading it for an E36 M3. This is as good as it gets in terms of mileage and condition and I figured that the people on this site would appreciate a car like this. Trust me, whoever buys this will NOT be disappointed! Since BMW did not hold the title, I have a separate lien release from them on their letterhead.

Email me at dean.point3@gmail.com since I can't send or receive private messages yet.

I will post pictures within the next few days.

Beautiful, just beautiful!

One point of interest --- I understand that it's impressive to still have the original tires on the car, but I'd get those off in a hurry and put some new ones on --- they ARE nearly 20 year old tires, and tires deteriorate over time due to heat and exposure to UV rays, as well as with use --- so I'd get those off, pronto. As a rule of thumb, it is not recommended to drive on tires that are more than 7 years old, purely due to deterioration as a result of exposure.

An amazing car --- I wish I could buy it!!! Best of luck w/ the sale!!!

See, the problem with buying this car is: Every single mile you put on the car, it depreciates 10x's faster. You can't buy this car for a daily, unless you're a baller and don't care about the value of the car. At the same time it's only $13k (wait, didn't this thread start out at $11k? Maybe I'm going crazy), so on the grand scale of things it's really not that much money.

Hope who ever ends up with it takes care of it.

god, i don't think i could own this car, i'd be too scared to touch it, but i would have to, to keep it clean and waxed, and from sitting too long.

the only thing i can say, is that how could you keep that low of miles on it? if you didn't drive it, wouldn't things start to get stuck, and things liek that? but i guess that's about 1000 miles a year, could be done if you were careful about it.

this thing belongs in concours' and car shows, not on the street, and god forbid a DD

It may be clean but it probably needs a lot of maintenance considering it still original tires on it that would be the first thing I would replace along with the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat. I don't believe that car would even pass inspection with those dry rotted tires on it.

Over the years I've found that a well maintained car with 120K on the clock is more reliable than the same car that has been sitting around with only 20k on it.

I bought a mint 1981 Buick Regal with 28,000 miles on it for $3000 from an old man that kept in a garge and only drove it on Sundays. Had original tires on it and had to replace them within a week due to dry rotting. Two weeks later I had to replace the water pump and radiator. Then a barage of maintenance items started going bad. Most of the wear parts had oxidized from sitting and as soon as I started driving the car daily it began to fall apart. I then bought a 1977 Cadillac Coupe Deville with 205,000 miles on it for $350 and drove it for 2 years without one problem until I hit a deer.

Beatiful car but I would give $13,000 for an E30 ONLY if all of the required maintenance and wear parts were replaced like in the case of how Jordan restored his car. Otherwise it is a good time capsule of a car but not something I would own as a DD.

That car is absolutely amazing! I printed a copy of the pictures and I'm going to spank it while looking at the pictures of the red on black interior. Fucking beautiful! PLEASE......I said P L E A S E don't sell it to a shithead. Sell it to someone that will honor it and love it as I would (actually, I would probably love it too much and it would end up pregnant) but don't sell it to a shithead. SCREEN THE BUYERS!

Ritalinkid..... It is not a buick or any other type of american car, so don't compare it to one. Also, who in their right mind would use it as a DD? I would save it as a Sunday driver at best....I have a 540i with 140k on it, and it runs like a CLOCK..... and I haven't replaced A SINGLE THING on it. I also had a 83 528e and I let it sit for 5 years before restoring the paint, and it ran like a fine GERMAN CLOCK after putting in a battery. (Yes, I did prep it for a long sit)

Anyway.....GREAT CAR...please don't let a dipshit buy it.....for the love of god. You owe it to us man. CALL BMW, I bet they would love to have that car.......Don't underestimate what you have on your hands.

What some people have echoed about maintenance is very true. Hell I'd be scared to start the car if the timing belt is still original. They are supposed to be replaced every 50K or 5 years, which ever comes first. They break and you are in for big money.

But its still a 20K mile E30. I think for 10K I'd buy it. I paid 14K for a 10 year old 54K mile E34 6 years ago and have loved every minute of it.

Reynard38
08-11-2006, 10:56 PM
If the mileage has been accumulated constantly over the years, no problem. If however it has sat for an extended period of time, without being driven (really driven and warmed up) then expect problems.
Machinery does not like to sit idle. I have seen it in motorcycles and airplanes.
It is however a beautiful car.

That is a very nice looking car. Commendable job for keeping it in pristine condition. I have to agree with some of the other ppl about the concern for maintenance - but if someone is going to spend that kind of money on a car, then they can afford to spend more time/money to do A LOT of maintenance before (if) they drive it.

I do have two questions though:

1. Why does the car have only 19k miles in so many years? It's a driver's car near the height of BMW quality - so why not drive it? Or if it was intended as museum piece, why doesn't it have fewer miles? Curiosity forces me to ask.

2. Why hasn't the lien release been signed off by BMW Financial (on the title)? Surely it's been paid for by now :P

Edit: Note that I am curious about question #1, but question #2 is meant entirely as a joke. No offense intended. Best of luck with your sale.

Regardless, thanks for the posting the pictures of the car for us to admire. Best of luck on the sale.

BavAuto sells them, but IIRC they only list it as a 1984-1986 318/325e part. (Go figure.)

edit: Nevermind.

Bav Auto no long stocks them - I ordered one in the spring and they cancelled my order - said they are no longer being made.

I put one on my SpecE30... It was insanely frustrating to attach, considering that it required the removal of the front bumper from the car (get some PB Blaster) and some finger contortion around the bumper's interior reinforcing bar (find someone with long, slender fingers).

... Or you could just carefully mask your bumper and paint in a "filler" with SEM Trim Paint.

No offense, but you people are smoking crack.

It's a beautiful car, no doubt. But hell, a 1986 Yugo with 5,000 original miles would be flawless too. And that's the point, in the end, it's a 325is... not a collectors car.

So, yes, it's a good looking 325. No way in hell is it worth $13k, and you would need to put the crack pipe down before "encasing it in a glass box" or "putting it in a museum".

Just my two cents,

Yea I saw that, all the way around the outside edges. It would be a shame to buy this and end up busting your noggin' and the car on a tree. I'd take those off asap. I'd also be concerned about the other rubber components on the car (seals, weatherstripping, etc.). I hope it doesn't leak like a sieve, though that's what I'd be concerned with.

Regardless, beautiful car. I don't think the museum part is too far fetched. That's really where it belongs.

you havent answered any of the important questions that need to be answered.

How long have you had the car and why hasnt it been driven much, where is it kept and how long has it sat without being driven? have you replaced any parts due to deterioration over time or is everything in it completely original and about to rot until it falls off?

I may have an offer for you but probably not unless you have good answers

No offense, but you people are smoking crack.

It's a beautiful car, no doubt. But hell, a 1986 Yugo with 5,000 original miles would be flawless too. And that's the point, in the end, it's a 325is... not a collectors car.

So, yes, it's a good looking 325. No way in hell is it worth $13k, and you would need to put the crack pipe down before "encasing it in a glass box" or "putting it in a museum".

Just my two cents,
Han

What you mean is it is not worth it to YOU!! Granted you are not alone, a large majority of people just cannot grasp the concept that super low mileage cars can, do, and always have, commanded a premium. Why? Because they are unique. Let me explain a little bit.

There are cars out there that people always wanted to own new, but for one reason or another could not at the time. But time passes, income goes up, and that person suddenly has some extra cash and a thought of, 'I wish I could still buy a new (insert car here) now that I have money,' and cars like this one fit that bill.

Also, car manufacturers have been known to buy super low mileage examples of cars from customers to put in museums for people to look at and remember what a certain model looked like when it was new. It is that impossible to duplicate preservation that cars like this speak to.

I for one am looking at a car right now that has 4,228 miles and is 8 years old. Why? Because I could not get it new when it came out, but I can afford to pay the premium now and still have that new car feeling. While you make think fans and buyers of a low mileage car are stupid or 'smoking crack' for paying extra, I caution you not to throw stones, because just because YOU think it is stupid does not mean everyone else does. To each their own.

Well said. By the way, this car is still for sale and the timing belt has just been replaced.

I just recently picked up what I thought would be one of the lowest mileage E30's I could ever find.

This car *easily* trumps my current beauty. I'm at a loss for words for your car. Absolutely a rare gem, indeed!

Best of luck getting the most $$$ for it!

Someone just threw away $5000......

I am a realist, unless it went a museum, it is a waste of money, bad investment, etc.
