I recently purchased a 633, and so far loving it more and more every day.
I recently placed a few posts regarding the spark plug choices, boot lid springs, speaker pods etc, and thank you to all who have given such valuable feedback. After 3 weeks of daily driving of this 1980 I have a few questions.

1. Why did they put an 80 mile an hour speedomerter on the dial? I drove to DelMar race track today and found the beast was happy to far exceed the limit?
2. I have occassional problems moving into reverse gear without a grind, although the gear box is sweet in all other shifts (when warm)
3. When I indicate to go right the hazard light warning flasher comes on (in the interior) although only the right exterior signals go on. Left operates as normal.
4. gearbox mounted window switches do not operate the back windows as rapidly as the rear seat mounted switches.
5. Can someone send me a photo of the rear boot lid hinge set up, as I still can't work out the way to do it, even with all the guidance in text already
6. can I replace these awful American style bumpers for Euro bumpers and still be road legal?
7. Is it worth installing a 5 speed for highway travelling? Rough guestimate as to the cost
8. Can I buy a rear parcel shelf (pod area) mat and where from?
9. Feel very uneasy as recommended by previous owner replacing the AC compressor because when I turn on the AC it blows a lot colder than the fan, but still not as cold as it should be, feel like I may be taken for a $1000. Can anyone recommend a reputable mechanic/AC repairer here in Newport beach or surroundings

You know what, I think that's enough for one day.
Thanks in advance,
Paul.

Just a thought, is it better to ask individual questions in separate posts or multiple like this? Has the bombardment been too much? If you feel like you are in lebanon please let me know.

IMHO Seperate posts with specific questions for best answers. Try search tool on the toolbar above for research.

That being said,

1. These cars have a top speed in excess of 130 mph. I believe that US regs limited the speedo gradations for a year or two. 160 mph speedos are available.
2. Sounds like clutch not fully disengaging. More knowlegable folks might point to how to adjust or likely failure points.
3. Turn signal wiring is routed through hazard switch. I've pulled a flakey hazard switch apart (lots of small parts beware) and cleaned all contacts with no functional improvement. Also, there are several versions of hazard switch pin outs so exact replacement is necessary.
4. Others have posted that the switches can be disassembled and cleaned. It sounds like dirty/oxidized contacts on console mounted switches.
5. See recent thread about front and rear strut. Pics there might show what you are looking for. If not, elaborate on what you need.
6. Supposed to be not for the impatient, weak willed, or those without deep pockets -- but can and has been done.
7. Have 5 speed 635 and absolutely love it. Drove down to SESF with two M's, an Alpina and a well maintained '89 635a. Others were hating me at the gas pumps. Dunno about cost or availability.
8. Try Maxmillian 1-800-950-2002
9. Yes, find reputable shop and have system tested before throwing parts at it. They should add flourescent dye to the system and check for leaks with a black light.

Best regards,

The grinding is because 4 speed cars didn't have synchronized reverse gears, so you have to depress the clutch and give it time to stop spinning. If the AC works, but not well it probably needs to be charged. The compressor is either good or bad, never in between.
