Ok, I got back from my mountain run at about 3:17ish. I left at 10:30. My friend and I went from my house to the 76. We hit every red light up until the 15. We crossed the 15 and headed towards the casinos. I was following my friend Chris, who was in his 2001 Grand Am. (2.4L four, disc/drum, 5-speed, 15s) I drive a 1990 325i coupe 2-door. We haul along the 76 toward Julian at an average speed of about 55mph. Apex, apex, apex... Then we head out along the 76 to the road to Palomar mountain. (Palomar Mountain Road?) We see lots of superbikes just before we start. We hit it and haul, me after him. For those of you who live elsewhere, Palomar is THE mountain to go down (or up) on superbikes or kick ass cars; we were going up. Anyways, we keep up an average speed of at least 40mph through the switchbacks. There are superbikes passing us going downhill at a speed of at least 60mph. Some of them get into the uphill lane, preventing me from swinging wide after the apex, so I have to wait longer to get on the gas. My friend Chris and I have to pull over at least 2 times to let speeding bikes by. We're about 3/4 of the way up the mountain, having load of fun, when we're passed by a yellow Porsche 914 headed downhill at a good rate of speed. Yowza, that thing was friggin' low. My friend and I continue to flat out haul ass up this mountain, going about 8/10ths. We get to the "top" and stop at this coffee shop up there. There is a designated biker area and there are at least 50 high-end superbikes in it. I park next to a Porsche 996 Aero, bright yellow. Chris and I are like... "Ho-ly crap, that was awesome." We're both soaked with sweat. Both of our cars are very content. We're both getting rehydrated when that yellow 914 pulls up. He parks it and I'm like "whoa." It's so cool. Chris says, "Dude, check out his tires. They're smokin', man!" I look, and they are indeed smoking. I was like... damn, that guy was flyin' on the way down and he must've flown the way up. We enjoy looking at the 996 Aero, who by now has gone down the mountain and back up again. There were so many nice bikes up there. Chris and I then fly down the backside of the mountain, towards Julian. Average speed: 55mph. We pass a cop truck at about 50mph. He does nothing. We apex everything, set up all the right lines, and we're having so much fun. We go through Julian (which, by the way, is filled with moron tourists) and then continue towards Warner Springs. We get on the 79 and drive into Temecula, average speed 60mph. We stop at Taco Bell and get lunch. Wow, I needed that. I get a chicken quesadilla and a medium Mountain Dew. It tastes sooo good. Anyways, we then head back to Fallbrook via Rainbow Canyon Road and get a little more of the twisties action, then head home. All in all, a VERY worthwhile trip and definitely tons of fun. If you can do it, do. You'll thank me. I'm still totally stoked; it was that much fun. :D :D :D
