I know M5james has an M62 from them in his 740 - he has the performance tuned one with sleeved cylinder bores - perfect if you want to go FI someday.

How is it going Supark....how ya been?
As for the motor......love it, but it took the FOREVER...apparantely there was some changin of the ranks with the builders while mine was being built. You will lose off the line power, and roasting the tires off the line will be almost impossible unless it is wet.....but hit 3.5-4k and it will launch like never before. Like Supark said, I am getting ready for FI, so I went the full performance option, hence the power loss from the bottom. I have already worked something out with VF where I will install the S/C myself, drive the car down to them in Cali, and have a custom burn made to the upgrades in the porting and polishing of the head, performance cams, etc.
If you go with just the regular rebuild I assume you will retain the same power, you will still get the sleeved block as it is standard, and then you are still free to use standard software from Powerchips, Dinan, GIAC, etc.

why would i loose power of the line.... i was under the impresion that a rebuilt performance upgraded engine would be as good as new or better?

Stock software + head that flows more air + custom ground cam = less bottom end power since the computer can't compensate fully. It would be the same if you had an intake installed, sure the computer can adapt, but you need software specific for the mod to make it run optimally. Others have done testing on the heads of our cars, and they have been proven to be able to flow more than enough air to handle well above what that car is capable of doing stock, but since I am still stock, meaning no FI, and have increased the flow to the heads even more so, the computer can't adapt ALL the way to what I have done to make it run 100% I've called Dinan, and they recommended against trying to magic recipe of mixing and matching software combo's to compensate for the added flow, so unless I find a local tuner that I can actually trust to write software for the BavEngine Performance mods, enjoy the added power above 3.5-4k...trust me, it's there ;) Ask some of the 540sports that I have walked on :alright

understood... thanks for the info... sounds like the best thing to do is go balls out and throw in the s/c with the rebuild... what the hell you only live once right.... i can almost gurantee there are no s/c bimmers in Connecticut which would def give me the wow factor.

I would have to argue that:

Gotta get those guys to do it, they have made some extremely fast cars.

any opinions on the bavarian pistons (max sil)? Are they really better? Is there any other choices to go with when rebuilding the engine?

Before buying another motor, I'd give them a call or drop by, (since you are so close, lucky) I am certain they would be willing to give you a plan of sorts, depending on your budget and power goals.

so what did you end up going with?

I can't really say if the pistons alone are anything better other than the specs that they give on themr creating tighter tolerances. The biggest differences I won't notice until I get the car s/c'ed and see how much stronger the car is compared to someone with a stock internals motor. The biggest deciding factor to me other than the 11k price of a brand new motor from BMW is that the rebuilt comes standard with sleeves, so I woul only assume that is gonna make the motor even more durable.
