Okay im in the market for a 1996-1999 M3. I really havent considered the sedan but I also have nothing against it. Well today I noticed an add on autotrader for a 1998 M3 sedan with 54,000 miles on it going for 14,995 and its a non-lux with the 5 spd manual. So I gave it a test drive and the thing appears to run great. Any suggestions, should I make a move on a car in this great of condition. Its being sold by a Ford dealership in my area and they claim that the price is low because they really have no association with BMW's and from what I could see they werent hiding anything from my (hopefully).

that is a really good deal. finding one with 54,000 miles and 15k is a good price. the one thing i would do is get a carfax just to be on the safe side.

Taking it to a third party for inspection may ease your mind as well. Thats what I would do.

Definitely a good deal if the car is in good shape.

Sounds like a good deal, but taking it to a third party (hopefully local BMW specialist) for inspection is definatly a good idea as it will truly give you an idea of what you are buying.

The only thing that concerns me is the price just seems a little to good to be true. And they recently dropped it from 19,000 to 15,000 so im not sure what to think.

I would definitely jump on that deal if everything checks out fine. It does sound a little too good to be true though. It doesn't have a slushbox does it? In that case, I would walk away.:D

Price is about in line with what it'd go for on the private party market. Keep in mind it's going to need quite a few maintenance items in the next 20k miles or so, just like all M3's of that age/usage.

Well if the price dropped 4 grand and the car fax is clean, definitely go for it. Even if some stuff is messed up, the 4 grand should fix it and make it better.

That usually means it's been sitting there for 3-4 months and now they either need to wholesale it or auction it. I think you may have stumbled onto the right car at the wrong dealership for it to sell....buy it!:)

If it checks out, buy it! Remember, they only made the sedan for two years, '97-'98. I purchased one in May and love it! I prefer the look of the sedan to the coupe and have found many others that feel the same way!

Buy it! Buy it like right now!

They probably took it in on trade, swiped it from the PO and are probably still making $2-3k at that price so they're tickled pink.

Offer them $13,500 of course.. but at $14,995 it's a steal, but negotiating can't hurt, worse they can do is say no and the asking price is still a deal.

Got in their today and offered them 13,000 they said no and I walked out. They called me back about an hour later haha and said they were working out a deal. I would be thrilled with 13,500 because I took it to a BMW mechanic and it sounds like 1500-2000 dollars should pretty much take care of any major maintenance for a good long time.
