All 95-99 m3 are e36s.
95 came with s50 and is obd1
96+ has s52 and is obd2
There was an e46 3 series in 99 though. It was the 323i and 328i.

you were right, a 98 is an e36. also, the 95 has a 3.0 liter inline 6 and the 96-99 has a 3.2 liter

so wait what is the 1999 m3, bc i heard that bmw skips a year with the m3 when they re-make them?.. was there a 1999 e36 m3, 1999 e46 m3, or none ever made?

99 m3 is an e36
The e46 m3 started in 2001.

the 99 ///M3 was also an e36, BMW didn't import the e46 ///M3's until the 2001 model

haha, i couldn't agree more.
-take your friend's keys away from him until you've sat down and given him a stern talking to...
ALSO: Sadiq, how do you like your PSS9's? can they be adjusted to a comfortable/soft street setting if need be?

i love them. i dont know for certain if they can be set for a "comfortable" setting because ive never tried, but I have them at setting 4 right now (1 being the stiffest) and its a little harsher than stock, so i would suspect you can get a stock-like ride with them.

sadiq,
well it sounds like they are versatile. i was just worried about the bilstein reputation of being too stiff for most drivers. i'm looking for a shock that can be comfy on the street until i want to change settings for the track. do you think the pss9's are a better deal than getting an aftermarket spring/shock setup?- b/c yours are certainly more expensive.
i'd appreciate any advice you have on the topic, thanks.

to be honest, i dont really know. when i was shopping around for suspension, i only wanted coilovers because they have an adjustable drop and are "the best," and i PROBABLY would have been happy with Bilstein PSS. But I figured i would spend $1450 on PSS9 instead of $1150 on PSS and get stiffness adjustability. I don't adjust them now that theyre on the car, but I have them set stiffer than regular PSS. For me, I really don't care in the least about ride quality. I love feeling every single pebble on the road, which you pretty much do with these coilovers on the stiff settings. But like i said, I THINK on the softer settings they have a stock-like ride. If all you're looking to do is get a certain drop and some improved handling, look into shock/spring setups (which I know very little about). For me, I wanted to have complete control of my drop so I went c/o.

haha, yeah i can't really afford upgrades. i can't claim anything cool yet- however i'm leaning toward those pss9's. expensive, but i'd rather have adjustability and a lasting brand, then buy a cheaper brand that might not be at a setting (permanent) that i'm happy with. thanks for the tips, tho.
