Looks like I need some ignition components as well... The question is, where do I start? Do I need to change all of the ignition coils? ($60 each - yikes  )

Maybe your MAF just needs to be cleaned? :dunno

i'll give it a shot. In the meantime - here are the symptoms:

-The car hesitates when taking off in 1st gear
-car hesitates in any gear when I floor it (happens often, but not everytime)
-sometimes RPMs fluctuate a bit at stop.

I bet you fouled a plug...

change the plugs and wires... cheap, easy job.

wire? You mean coilpacks? Damn, that's about $360 - those things are $$$. Are there any tests I could do to find out for sure?

basically. spent its entire life down south and recently was bought by a wholesaler from the original owner. from there it was bought by a used car salesman in maryland and i just picked it up 1.5 weeks ago.

I do not mean to steal your light.

Start with the spark plugs. If the hestitation is still present, then change the wires.

ok, i just pulled the coilpacks out to find the 1st and 6th spark plug wells almost completely flooded with oil. The weird thing is that I changed the valve cover and spark plug gaskets one year ago.
