so ive had this rubbing/knocking noise going into 1st or reverse and hard acceleration. looked under the car, the flex disc is very worn. the knocking noise would be pretty loud so i figured that the Center support bearing is bad as well.

i get under the car and see how bad everything is.

-flex disc is tore up. not as bad as the example you see in bavauto catalogs, but getting there...

-Center support bearing seems fine, but the Bolts holding it in was loose.

-driveshaft has some play. (not sure if its normal)

-on the rear half shaft, one of the dust covers seem to have some curling bends on the edge. this is probably due to the CSB being loose.

Do i need to purchase a new driveshaft or do i just need to replace the flex disc and CSB?

I don't know about the driveshaft being shot, but hopefully it hasn't hosed anything else by flopping around. If you're a DIY'er, I'd replace the guibo (need to do mine this summer), and see if you can tighten the support bearing bolts up.

See what that gets you.

Might be worth spending the $100 - $200 to have a good shop do an inspection for you so you know.

yeah, i bolted up the CSB and did not replace the flex disc (late at night, tired, its my DD and got work the next morning...) after that i drove it and it felt alot better of course, but i can still feel a rumble from the nasty flex disc.

also, id like to ask is: How does a worn out Center Support Bearing look like?

when i briefly inspected mine, it just looked like my new one but not securely bolted in. minimal play in the rubber. i didnt see any cracks in the rubber.

Would a worn out Flex Disc cause enough vibrations to undo the bolts holding in the CSB? or could the driveshaft be the dirty culprit?
