ok, whoever doesnt have upgraded tranny mounts... buy them, now!

i got full race, they are badass. if youve seen that in car video with the m3 GTR, and how LOOOOUDDD its tranny is, well, these mounts make that same noise, just much quieter....

i love how you get the gear noise and slam sounds into each gear.. priceless, feels like you are driving someone so much more raw...

very little vibration seriously though, i havent noticed any yet.... only a little if i hold it in first gear and am not on the throttle (like a 5mph zone)..
oh yea, and makes the tranny shift so much smoother and percise...
cliff notes- makes the car sound PISSED off.

future plans, race subframe, engine and diff mounts. :pp

LMFAO

That noise is BAD if you're using stock components.

Mounts don't make your car sound like a GTR...
Straight-cut gears do.

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

go to school, helical cut gears make noise as well.
the reason they are quieted, is from rubber mounts,

straight gears make alot of noise.... and they make similar noises, and the noise i am describing is very quiet, if i have the ac on more than a couple notches you cant hear it... i just dig it.
oh yea, and if its bad, how come it just started when i did the mounts.. if my tranny is about to blow, im happy, 6spd here i come.

I know how ya feel, I got the JT-D tranny brace and did the softer bushings (as I knew the race were insane), the little extra noise is great, I love it as well. Gives it a little more race car feel. :)

I hope you arent using solid metal mounts....

The rubber/urethane is there for a reason: to absorb/damp vibration. You may interpret the new noise as cool or whatever, but it just means metal fatigue and your chassis will fail much sooner.

UUC's mounts with harder rubber and a metal reinforcement cups do a good job of keeping vibration transmission to a minimum while keeping the tranny in place.

Race parts dont belong on any street car....

I have a rubber/urethane bushing, no metal involved there.

Lol @ UUC, total garbage, but that's besides the point and I won't thread jack this with a full-on conversation about that.

Dude, if you want your car to sound like a GTR, drive in reverse. Putting race mounts on all of you're most critical parts is for dumbasses. Yeah, race cars sound cool, but they also have their suspension, transmissions and engines rebuilt after hours. Although, maybe the mounts have a positive purpose: they'll stop the notorious "tranny mount" induced misshift :shifty

True....

I got rid of my motor mounts, tranny mounts, rtabs, and any other rubber bushing. Went with solid aluminum ones and I get compliments all the time about how it sounds just like a racecar.

Yea I wasn't so sure about this when I first read it....I am hoping he is talking about the red UUC ones (w/ enforcers)......but I have those and my car doesn't sound like a race car lol.

it wasn't really true but ok...

mods wise gc suspension, m50, exhaust software the usual. I think I listed them all in my dyno thread in my sig.

Sad part is, I think he's actually serious about the tranny mounts making his car sound like a racecar. NVH will end up shaking that thing to pieces.
Besides, as everyone has stated, tranny mounts won't make a street car sound like an X5 with the LMP V12 motor nor will it make it sound like an E46 M3 works cars with the V8 either (motors aside).

you lied to me :(

anyway yeah i saw that thread, good stuff, i love how your wheels look the most... anyway...

my friend has a gti vr6, mk3, he has solid motor mounts, tranny mounts, diff mounts... and well his car is so friggen noisy/vibrating/creaky .. he swears it's "all cool" because hes an automotive engineering major, but seeing how his CEL has been on since he installed them, who knows what's up haha

It's his car, not yours.
I wouldn't use solid mounts either, but then, I like quietude.

Yea and we are trying to help him not f*ck up his car, make him realize those solid mounts are not as "cool" as he once thought.

what the hell is a race subframe?

Its probably red and has stickers on it.

Actually, he probably just means more solid mounts connecting the subframe to the chassis.

oh damn screw that!

I don't know but I am pretty tired of driving my car on 550/600# springs with my gc coilovers and I couldn't imagine having solid bushings on top of that.

Race parts belong on RACE cars.. jeez

Still could be what he meant.
I remember there was some discussion as to whether or not these points were reinforced on all M's.

I think they were, at least here in the states. I have seen them on early build '95s.

I sure as hell hope so.
I sweated this before changing suspension a few years ago.

The OP created the thread because he probably wanted response. He just probably wasn't expecting this kind of response because he didn't know how bad it is for his car.

Does anyone still ever use 320i vert tranny mounts? I have a set at home I was thinking about putting on. They have to be better than M3 mounts. What do you have to do to put them on, cut a V notch in the top?

you also need to enlarge the bolt holes ....

hahah, yea i run the urathane mounts.

trust me, being a tech i fully understand why a solid mount will @#$ up a car quick. these are urathane (sp?) and only have a solid bolt running through it, should have no detrimental effect on the car at all... the 99 is a reinforced chassis compared to earlier models, and its not like im running harder motor moutns or subframe mounts.. that would be asking for trouble.

the only other crazy stuff ill get into will be urathane control arm /rtab's... when they wear out...

for right i just want to run open track days and autox, but eventually, as the car ages, i want to make it a dedicated trailer queen. (when i can afford the e92 m3)

and this car isnt a daily driver, and even when, its driven to my shop (1 mile from my house) and on the weekends ONLY to cruize on pch / canyon runs...

i guess i should post my 88 cherokee as my beater (INLINE 6 baby!)

oh yea and id think you catch the :pp as being a joke .. comon.... :eyecrazy :eyecrazy :eyecrazy

and i also like how so many people slam their car with HR race springs and ACCUALLY @#$% their cars up for good by bottom outs and the like, and no one flames them. i put some urathane mounts on, and im an idiot. right. im still running stock pulleys and stock hieght springs.
