View Full Version : Have you ever remapped your ECU?

I just purchased a KWP 2000 ECU flasher with the 20-pin BMW cable, Mercedes cable, and an OBD II cable. I haven't recieved it yet, but I wanted to know if anybody has ever done this or heard about it. The KWP flasher connects your laptop/desktop to your car's ECU and using one of several independent software packages available, you can remap your car's ECU and thereby increase performance (similar to using a shark injector). You can manually adjust your car's ECU or just use one of the pre-programmed ECU files. I have heard of VW guys using this, but not on a bimmer.

There is also diagnostic software available that enables this hardware to scan codes and reset the check engine light as well as the air bag light. Pro Scan has a software/hardware kit on ebay for $100 that will check all 500-some odd sensors in real time, reset all lights, give dyno charts (I'm not sure how accurate though), and it also has a virtual dragstrip with 0-6mph times, 1/4 mile times, etc. Let me know what you think on all of this stuff.

Thanks,

Trey

AFAIK the OBD2 ECU/DME addresses aren't well known to the public. You have to know what you are changing before you can get a desired result.

The software sounds cool for the diagnostics.

And no offense because I can't do it either, but if you're asking about ECU mapping, you shouldn't be doing it.

I don't want to manually map the ECU myself. I was planning on using the files already on the software for my car.
