Roof Liner coming apart

My roof/sunroof liner is coming apart all over the place. Anyone replaced one of these before? Is it just the fabric that needs replacing or everything up to the metal? Can the car be driven normally with it all removed, or will there be wires etc. hanging down? Can it be replaced at home or should it be taken to a shop? Anyone with experience please help.
