While I should be nasty and tell you to use the 'search' function, I won't...
There isn't one correct answer to this. If you like the way your car is running on 5-30, keep using it. However, most people in warm climates will run a heavier weight oil. I run Mobile 1, 15-50, and I'm in New York State, where our summers average in the 80's during the summer, with a few days in the 90's.

I would never put 5w30 mobil1 in a bmw.
It's way to THIN! Mobil 1 also run on the thinner side of the weight scale for oil. 5w30 are for honda that needs the thinner oil.
You should be putting in 15w50 mobil one. Works great for me during the summer time. Not sure how your texas winter are like but you could run 0w40 is what some people run if they don't have a winter beater.
This has been covered many times on here.
Do a search dude. This is discussed once a week.

That's what i usually end up spending for my oil change. I buy an extra quart usually to keep as a spare in my trunk.
I change oil filter at 3k and will have to add about half quart of oil cause the old filter takes some of the oil with it.
You don't have to change oil for 6k so it's not much more then other oil changes with other oil at every 3k miles.

I can't even find anything thicker than 10w30 Mobil 1 synthetic around here. Where did you get it?

Tried there. The best I found was 10w40 Castrol Synthetic.

i personally fouond 15w50 too thick. much happier w/ Amsoil 5w40. smoother/quieter startup and actually helped w/ lifter tick

That's a good oil, the syntec 10w40 matches pretty well with the e36 m3.

It is high. Usually most places around here sell it for 5.99 a quart, but then again we dont have sales tax either. I was lucky enough to pick up 60 qts at 1.23 a quart when Target had it mispriced :) I love bringing that up to rub it in ;)
