I went to pick up my new 06 330xi today and they were putting some final touches-- washing it (had been sitting outside waiting for me when I was out of town)...

The dealer said we had a problem, that the wheels were damaged (18" upgrades) during transport, the shipping company must have put webbing or ropes through the wheels because there were rub marks and abrasions on back 2 and front right...

The car had 12 miles on it... I was pissed...

He said "Oh, we'll have them repaired"... I said, I didn't just spend 47k on a car to get repaired wheels, I want brand new wheels....

So, they pulled 2 off another car in the lot with 14 miles on it (the back two had curb rash!!!!), and they're waiting on one more to be delivered in four days..

There was also a small scratch on the front bumper, under-- they said they'd fix it entirely

I took the car home anyways to drive it around and get used to the new iDrive (which I love)..

You guys think I did the right thing? Would you have asked for four new wheels and left it there until they did it? I know its entirely aesthetic, and not any major damage but I was like... i buy a new car, I want every inch of it to be new, after all that's what I paid for!!!

Thoughts? Other than the weird experience at the dealer which took 3 hours, I love this car.. drives like a dream!

I wouldnt really mind repaired wheels, but you shouldnt have settled for ones that had curb rash. I would talk to them

18" wheels on a 330Xi from the factory???

12 miles and you were pissed? It comes from Germany, you know. Factory test, loading and unloading from sea freight, loading and unloading from train, loading and unloading from truck, PDI test drive, drive to gas station...

Having said that, I would have requested new wheels.

I would never settle for repaired wheels - they will never be as new, especiallly 18's

+1, if you spent that much on the car, you going to leave it as refurb'd wheels?

+2.... 47k and repaired rims?? They might aswell have swapped the engine for a reconditioned one I mean WTF??? If I was spending near 50k on a new car, it has to be new... all of it. I don't know about the laws in the US but surly in your situation the dealer has an obligation to give you brand new wheels??

3 of the 4 wheel were damaged... onsite they were able to replace two that they had on another car on the lot... they ordered the 3rd one and should be here in 3 or 4 days... so I got all new wheels-- basically, the 2 they put on were pulled off another car in the lot with 13 miles on it...

I think the only other choice I had was to say, I'm leaving this here and I want you to order 4 entirely new wheels....

So long as you ended up with 4 brand spanking new, flawless wheels, (Ignoring the intergalactic 13 miles on your replacements) the job is a good 'un;)
