What do guys predict the e46 and e36 M3s will be going for in about two years. I'll be in the market for an M3 but I don't know if I should go with the e36 like I planned on or just go for the e46 if the prices drop low enough. I'll probably end up getting an e36 and modding the hell out of it but there's that chance I might pick up an e46. Maybe I'll just drop an s52 with some FI in my 325is and just go crazy on that but I find that pointless when I get just get a real M.:D Anyway, I was just curious what you think they'll be at in a couple years especially once the e92 comes out. Also, what's the insurance difference on the e36 and 46? I've heard there's not much difference. Thanks!:redspot

Hmm if I can get my hands on an e46 M for low 20s, I'll probably go for that but I think I'd rather have a mint e36 with lots of goodies. You're right though, they probably won't drop much in two years. Everyone wants an M.;)

I dont think prices will be dropping significantly. The e36 will still cost around what it costs now, and the e46 should drop a couple thousand. BMW M versions seem to hold their value well. Different people will be in the market for different cars. Take the e30 m3's for instance. They came out 18 years ago and they are still holding value well.

Yeah, certain cars don't drop after a point. My parents sold their '93 E320 for something like 9k in 2001. The value for a '93 E320 is still 9k. It hasn't dropped after 5 years.
You'll probably see the same type of devaluation curve with the M3s, especially since it's a specialty vehicle.

Yeah, VERY well. The M8 also held it's price extremely well. Currently an 850i can be bought for 10-20k, but the 850csi (M8) goes for on avg. over 50k. (side note-- it helps that only 220 M8s were delivered to the U.S.)
Gotta love ///M cars :)
